Join us for the AOM's PDW session on "AI and Scaling: Foundational Models, AI Agents, and Hyperscalability"!

    Saturday August 1st 11:45 am-2:45 pm (Philadelphia Convention Center: 200 Level, 202A)

    Pre-registration Deadline: July 15, 2026

Scaling research emphasizes the necessity to perform value-creating activities reliably and efficiently as a firm grows. Central to this work is the notion of scalability-the degree to which processes, structures, and capabilities can expand without proportionate increases in investment, coordination burden, or complexity. Today, the rapid advancement and adoption of foundational models and AI agents are reshaping virtually all aspects of scalability, including how organizations and its members process information, learn, make decisions, fulfill tasks, and collaborate. This PDW examines how AI alters the mechanism of (hyper-)scalability and affects both the possibilities and constraints of growth. The workshop will be structured in three parts. First, four panelists will draw on their research at the intersection of AI and scalability. Second, the panel will be followed by a commentary discussion by an expert in the field. Third, we will engage with audience members through interactive activities, including a Q&A session and breakout discussions. By convening a group of leading scholars, we hope to advance our understanding of the interdependent phenomena, facilitate discussions to generate new ideas for future research, and foster the global scholarly community interested in scalability.

    Panelists:

    ●       Hyunjin Kim, INSEAD

    ●       Tobias Kretschmer, Imperial College London

    ●       Dimo Ringov, ESADE Business School

    ●       Neil Thompson, MIT

    Discussant:

    ●       Alexander McKelvie, Syracuse University

    Pre-registration:

If you would like to participate in a roundtable to share and get feedback on your early-stage work, please pre-register using this link.

Those wishing to attend only the panel are also encouraged but not required to pre-register.

Please pre-register by July 15, 2026. The roundtable sessions can accommodate approximately 40-50 participants; if you are selected, you will receive a confirmation prior to the start of the conference.
