  • 1.  Passing of Karl E. Weick

I am very sad to report the passing of my favorite mentor,  Professor Karl E. Weick, who passed May 21. Many know of his innovative and stimulating work in sensemaking. As a Ph. D student at Minnesota, I knew him when taught a small seminar that met at his house while finishing his first book, The Social Psychology of Organizing, later as his GA, and as an inspiration for my dissertation. In his later years, we stayed in touch with birthday and Christmas ecards.  Two little known facts: he was born Halloween, 1938, when Orson Wells War of the Worlds was broadcast and, he loved jazz, he was a jazz DJ when he was as a undergrad at Wittenberg. I always admired his creativity with concepts; so far, I've not come close to his level:)) His ideas and spirit will live on.
