Why Kayaking?
Sports serve as powerful “living laboratories” for exploring management challenges beyond traditional organizational settings. While rowing has often been used as a metaphor in organizational studies, this session takes a fresh approach by examining kayaking to uncover insights into group coordination, leadership, teamwork, and the mental resilience required for success.
Relevance for Leaders
In the demanding environments of business schools and associations, deans, scholars, and managers face intense competition and high expectations. Like elite kayakers, they must work together seamlessly to achieve shared goals. This PDW offers a unique opportunity for members of the Organization and Management Theory (OMT) and the Iberoamerican Academy of Management (IAOM) divisions of the Academy of Management (AOM) to reflect critically on these challenges.
