Student Community FAQs

Welcome to the AOM Student Community! Here are some FAQ's to help you get started.

You can email students@aom.org with any questions.

What is the AOM Student Community?

The student community is a dedicated forum for all Student members of the Academy of Management (AOM). Active AOM Student members are automatically subscribed to the community upon joining or renewing membership with AOM. Our volunteer student ambassadors and leaders are available within the community to help you engage with peers across divisions and guide you on getting involved with AOM.

Why does the student community exist?

We recognize the need for a space where AOM students members can share knowledge throughout their academic journey. The Student Community is a student-run space that exists for AOM student members to ask questions, connect and engage with one another, and serve as a source of year-round support.

How is the community organized?

The AOM Student Community is led by a student leadership team: Chair, Co-Chairs of the Communications Committee, and Co-Chairs of the Programs Committee. You can learn more about them and the rest of the student leaders here. AOM Membership staff support student leaders in overseeing the community. The Communications Committee manages our Connect@AOM page and mass communications. The Programs Committee manages our live programs, whether in-person or on Zoom. Each committee has student ambassadors who execute initiatives within them. Interested students begin serving as ambassadors in cohorts, and choose one committee to serve in.

Who has access to the student community and for how long?

All active AOM Student members are automatically subscribed to the community upon joining or renewing membership, and will retain access for the duration of their AOM Student membership. As this is a community made for students, by students, it is limited to only student members.

How do I login to/access the student community?

Visit https://connect.aom.org/students on the Connect@AOM community site. Login to your account in the upper right corner of the page to have full access to the community tools. The Student Community page provides an overview of useful information and links to resources, some of which is publicly accessible. However, the ability to participate/post in the community requires log-in and membership.

How do I contribute or participate in the community?

Contributions can be made by posting to the Discussion board. All student members are encouraged to ask questions to prompt informative discussions, as well as replying to questions asked by others. Be sure you are logged in to participate, and click the "Post to Discussion" button to compose a message. Students can also contribute time as leaders or ambassadors. For more information, email us.

How will I receive notifications from the student community?

All Student members are subscribed to receive a Daily Digest email by default. The Daily Digest is sent each day at 7:00am Eastern time, and contains discussion posts and replies from the previous day.

Can I change my notification settings?

Yes. Other notification settings include Real Time (one message sent every time there is a new post to the discussion board), No Email (no notifications, but you are still a member of the community), or Consolidated Digest options (combine Student community notices into an email with other AOM communities, for daily or weekly delivery). Visit your Connect@AOM community profile to update your notification preferences.

What other resources will I find in the Student Community?

The space will continue to evolve naturally as students ask questions, support each other, and gather throughout the year. AOM Communications and Program Committees continuously explore how we can engage with one another between time points and within set time points respectively. Our leaders welcome resources that can be curated in the shared community library, and how engagement can take place within our community and between community affiliates.
