PhD studentship - Climate Change and Social Entrepreneurship of Vegan CoPs on Social Media

  • 1.  PhD studentship - Climate Change and Social Entrepreneurship of Vegan CoPs on Social Media

    Posted 12-06-2021 14:38

The University of Bristol, School of Management is accepting applications for a (supervisor-led) PhD studentship on Climate Change and the Social Entrepreneurship of Vegan Communities of Practice on Social Media.

    Deadline

Apply by 6th January 2022 to start in October 2022.

    Project overview

The PhD studentship aims to investigate (1) how Communities of Practice (CoPs) that promote vegan and plant-based eating habit may shape public discourse on climate change on social media; (2) to what extent their activities online may influence public policy making on sustainable food consumption. Discussions about everyday practices of food consumption in relation to climate change can be highly controversial. How CoPs promoting vegan and plant-based eating deal with this controversy and influence public belief about climate change, whether they contribute to fuel further misinformation or whether they drive more sustainable choices in food consumption, are among the main questions that this PhD project will seek to answer.

The PhD studentship offers an exciting opportunity to explore and apply computational research methods (e.g. social media and text analytics, visual network analysis) in combination with qualitative research to investigate complex social phenomena. The PhD will advance the field of management by contributing to research on collaborative views of social entrepreneurship and show how CoPs, by facilitating the collective learning of daily practices on social media, can be agents of social change.
