Hello all,
I wanted to announce to our membership in the Sport and Management Group that my institution (i.e., LSU) is currently recruiting to fill 2 to 3 new graduate assistantship openings in our doctoral program to begin in Fall 2026. These Sport Management graduate assistantships carry a competitive monthly stipend (i.e., $23,000 over 9 months) and a full tuition waiver. Additional financial incentives/bonuses at $16,000 or more are potentially available for applicants with an outstanding GMAT score and high cumulative GPA. We encourage to forward notice to any students in your programs to ask about these as well!
It should also be noted that several past applicants and doctoral students with LSU Sport Management received university-level fellowships prior to admission and/or been offered university-level dissertation fellowships to complete their coursework. Further, we can guarantee other benefits within a start-up package. For instance, we guarantee at least $2,000 annually for travel to conferences.
Graduate assistants at LSU will be expected to teach two lecture classes each semester within our B.S. program in Sport Administration, giving each graduate of LSU real and ample teaching experience as lead instructor prior to hitting the job market. Lastly, we want to note that all former doctoral graduates of our program were successful in receiving tenure-track appointments as their initial job opportunity, including colleges or schools of business. Furthermore, our past doctoral graduates overwhelmingly secured multiple peer-reviewed publications and presentations prior to graduation.
The deadline for a Fall graduate assistantship at LSU is March 1, 2026; however, we are looking to cultivate relationships with prospective applicants immediately through correspondence that any potential student may wish to initiate. To facilitate a positive recruiting experience, students interested in our PhD opportunity and graduate assistantships at LSU are encouraged to contact individual faculty members regarding their research fit as a potential advisor. Current faculty potentially accepting students at LSU Sport Management include: Claire Zvosec, Mike Martinez, Brent Oja, Chad Seifried, and Per Svensson.
Our faculty at LSU are published in a variety of sport management's top academic journals (e.g., Journal of Sport Management, Sport Management Review, European Sport Management Quarterly, etc.) and other top-tier business journals as well. We are active presenting at major conferences and serving in editorial or editorial review board roles. Next, each of our faculty also have a good scholarly reputation in their respective subdiscipline fields. Finally, our collective faculty achieved various research fellow awards (e.g., NASSM Research Fellow, SMAANZ Research Fellow, CSRI Research, etc.), best paper recognitions (including some with students), and secured external funding for a variety of projects with multiple associations, foundations, and such. Further, from a benchmark perspective, we are one of the higher research producing and impact faculities in Sport Management per faculty and per year. For additional information see the attached research flyer.
Thank you for your time and consideration to forward this information to prospective students and to those students contemplating such an opportunity. If you or any students have any additional questions, I am happy to take those (
