CALL DEADLINE EXTENSION ATLANTA COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE CONFERENCE MAY 18 – 20, 2010

The organizers of the 2010 ACAC have had multiple requests for an extension in the submission deadline for this year's ACAC due to the winter storms in the eastern US.  Many had their Universities closed for several days last week or have faced transportation problems that had a similar impact.  To accommodate these requests we have decided to keep the SSRN site open for paper submissions through the end of the week.  We realize that those who lost most of a week of work time may be overwhelmed with other backed-up tasks; however, because of the need to review papers and inform authors in a timely manner, we will only be able to extend the deadline through the 20th.

We want to encourage all authors who have not already done so to submit manuscripts on any of the topics listed in the Call.

The Call for Papers is reprinted below.

    The "big picture" strategy questions...

    - Where do competitive & distinctive advantages     come from, and how are they sustained?

    - Why do some companies & new ventures     consistently outperform their competitors?

    - Why do some businesses succeed in the same industry environments where others fail?

    - And what, if anything, can managers and entrepreneurs actually do about it?

The aim of this annual conference series is to improve our ability to answer these "big picture"

questions and other related questions by engaging some of the world's top researchers on competitive advantage in Atlanta for three days a year.

    We expect to:

    - Share cutting-edge research, ideas, and theories.

    - Foster collaborative research efforts.

    - Build a worldwide association and network of

researchers who are dedicated to advancing the

state of knowledge about competitive advantage.

    -------------------------------------------------------

The conference organizers invite the submission of unpublished working papers that advance the state of knowledge about competitive advantage.

    - Conference registration fee will be WAIVED for

ALL authors of accepted papers. All authors of

accepted papers will also receive catered

meals and deeply discounted hotel rates ($129 per

night at conference hotel while room supply lasts),

but will be expected to pay for their own

hotel, airfare, & other travel expenses.

    - Submitted papers will undergo a selection

process, NOT a formal review process -- so

we will not provide reviews or other feedback

        on any submitted manuscript.

    - Submitting a paper represents a commitment

that at least one of the authors will attend

and participate in whatever session the paper

gets scheduled for, whenever during the

conference that session is scheduled. Authors

who commit to attend and participate but then

fail to do so, for any reason other than an

immediate genuine emergency, may be excluded

from participation in future ACAC meetings.

    - In addition to regular paper-presentation sessions,

authors may also choose to allow their submitted

papers to be considered for two other alternative

        session formats: a poster-presentation session

(held at the time and place where refreshments

are being served, in order to maximize audience

size), or a research-development workshop session

(where authors to provide feedback to each other

on their papers, under the guidance of an

        experienced facilitator).

    - Papers must be submitted via the Social Science

Research Network (SSRN) conference submission system at

        http://hq.ssrn.com/conference=ACAC-2010

Submitters must create a SSRN account. Any technical     problems with the SSRN submission system should be      reported by e-mailing UserSupport@SSRN.com or

        calling 877-SSRNHELP (877.777.6435 or 585.442.8170).

    - Papers must be submitted in PDF format, but     documents can be converted to PDF format for FREE      (with no software required) by using any of five on-line file-conversion web sites -– see the submission web page above for links and details.

    - When submitting a paper, please select topic codes from the ACAC topics list that best describe your paper's topic. These codes are listed under topic headings in the classification section of the submission process.

    - The DEADLINE for submissions is Monday

        February 15, 2010.

Additional information about the Atlanta Competitive Advantage Conference is available on-line at:

    STRATEGIC HUMAN CAPITAL

Call for Papers: SMS Rome Conference

    Conference dates: September 12 - 15, 2010

    Submission Deadline: February 25, 2010

    See Rome.StrategicManagement.net

The deadline is approaching to submit your proposals for the new Strategic Management Society (SMS) interest group, Strategic Human Capital (SHC), inaugural program in Rome. We welcome research broadly addressing the role of human capital in explaining firm performance. Scholarship that is interdisciplinary and/or considers human capital at multiple levels of analysis is especially welcomed. Some sample key questions include:

    *  What causes firm heterogeneity in valuable human capital?

    *  What mechanisms link human capital to firm outcomes?

    *  How does human capital contribute to competitive advantage?

    *  How do firms manage value appropriation by "stars"?

    *  How do labor markets differ from other strategic factor markets?

    *  How does human capital interact with social or intellectual capital?

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the submission process for the SMS conference, we encourage you to visit the submission website (http://rome.strategicmanagement.net/submissions/guidelines.php).  Some important points about submission guidelines are that proposals:

    *  Should not exceed a total of 7 pages – 5 pages for the body which can include charts, graphs, diagrams, etc. and up to 2 pages of references. These may be single spaced. It is a hallmark that SMS presentations are on the cutting edge. Therefore, we invite proposals rather than completed papers.

    *  Must be accompanied by a 125 word abstract for inclusion in the Program.

    *  Only electronic submissions will be accepted.

    *  Maximum of two (2) proposals, either as an author or a co-author.

    *  Must clearly indicate a conference track that best fits for your work (We are Track L).

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us. Find out more:

    Dear Colleagues,

We are conducting a literature review and meta-analysis of the antecedents and consequences of absorptive capacity at the firm level of analysis. We are interested in all conceptualizations and operationalizations of the absorptive capacity construct. If you have such a study, in press, in manuscript form, in progress, or in some form in which correlations among variables are available, we would be very grateful to hear about it. Of course, your work would also be included or cited in our eventual paper. Thanks in advance for letting us know.

    Best regards.
