Transnational Corporations Review (TNCR), established in 2008, is supported by the Vale Columbia Center on Sustainable International Investment at Columbia University at the United States and The Investment Analysis Center at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). This periodical is edited by the Ottawa United Learning Academy (OULA) and published by Denfar Transnational Development (Denfar). It is a modern media journal dedicated to providing economic, policy, and business analysis of current issues related to transnational corporations (TNCs), foreign direct investment (FDI), institutional innovation, and international development.

The journal emphasizes China's and other emerging economies' growing involvement in the global economy. FDI by TNCs is the most dominant and dynamic element of the world economy in terms of production value; and TNCR fills the urgent need for a journal on the topic that is available in both English and Chinese. It is the only journal published in the West that addresses the topic from modern economic and business theory and practice including knowledge management perspectives. The journal serves the needs of globally dispersed young professionals and senior graduate students majoring in international economics and business.

For more information about this journal, please visit our website at www.tnc-online.net. Thank You!

    Abstract:

How do firms learn to integrate and manage sustainability in their business model?

Despite the significant (and increasing) amount of work on the learning and change challenges connected to embedding sustainability in business firms, the internal and the external dynamics that influence the ability of firms to change themselves towards sustainability are still largely unclear. We also have little understanding of the dynamics of system change that is needed if firms are to meet the sustainability challenges.

Moreover, the need for empirical foundations for a stakeholder-based view of the firm has been voiced by several authors in the CSR/SD field. Identifying the factors that influence firms' ability to affect core strategic or structural change consequent to stakeholder expectations is a key step for any progress in the future of CSR and sustainability research. Finally, learning about how firms develop capabilities for adapting to constantly evolving stakeholder expectations, requires a much better understanding of the micro-foundations of these evolutionary processes. In particular, we are interested in the development of conceptual and empirical work on the evolution of individuals' knowledge, motivation and values towards the traits that facilitate sustainable decisions, behaviour and outcomes.

With this track, we would like to tackle some of the key unanswered (and, in some cases, unasked) questions related to the organizational change and learning challenges that companies face as they identify, make sense and manage sustainability issues and rapidly evolving stakeholder expectations on corporate behaviour.

We thus invite theoretical development and empirical papers addressing these topics as related to the main components of a business model, including but not limited to: Purpose and History; Cultural and Systemic Change; Organizational Processes and Capabilities; Sensing and Strategic Decision-Making; and Governance and Organizational Structure.

    CALL FOR PAPERS

18th Americas Conference on Information Systems

    Seattle, Washington, August 9-12, 2012

    Minitrack:  Trust in Information Systems

    Description

A user's trust and distrust in information systems are important components in the interactive relationship between users and their systems. A user has to trust a technology before the technology is adopted and fully used. While there is a rich literature on interpersonal trust, trust in information systems has been under-researched and much of what we know about trust in IS contexts is derived from the interpersonal views promulgated through the organizational behavior research. Hence, the conceptualization of trust in information systems needs to be clarified and expanded to include not only the interpersonal view but also the intermediated views that arise from considerations of the source credibility paradigm from mass communications theory. In this way, the similarities and differences between interpersonal trust and trust in information systems will be better understood. Though concepts and theoretical frameworks from prior literature on interpersonal trust have investigated trust in information systems, the components of trust that are derived from combined source and media effects in the source effects paradigm can explain much of how users interact with and come to trust technology mediated sources in eCommerce, eBusiness and personal contexts. Designing more trustworthy technology requires well-informed research, and the expansion of our understanding of the concept of trust beyond the interpersonal context, for specific use in information systems. What we learn from applying new conceptualizations of the trust construct in information systems will also lead to better understanding of adoption and use of technology-mediated channels for business and personal purposes. From this, new contextual factors can be discerned which may have important moderating effects on key technology outcomes.

We welcome the submissions addressing all aspects of trust and distrust in information systems, credibility, deception, privacy violations, and the like. We welcome conceptual, theoretical or empirical research papers.

    Suggested Topics

Suggested topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

ü    Conceptualization of trust and/or distrust in information systems that expands beyond the interpersonal view to include source effects models

ü    Processes of trust and/or distrust development in information systems

ü    Theories or empirical studies on the impact of user, task, technology, and contextual characteristics on trust/distrust in information systems

ü    Theories or empirical studies on the impact of trust in information systems on technology adoption, decision making, website revenue, and customer relationships

ü    Users' trusting perceptions of information systems in electronic or mobile business/commerce

ü    Research on the formation and consequences of privacy concern or privacy violations caused by various information systems

ü    Conceptual, theories or empirical studies on the impact of credibility or deception in information systems on technology adoption, decision making, website revenue, and customer relationships

The PRACTICE THEME COMMITTEE seeks exciting, innovative, interdisciplinary workshops involving researchers and practitioners

    for the

Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management, August 3-7, Boston

(August 3-4, Friday-Saturday, for PDW presentations)

Online Submissions Due Date: January 10th, 2012 at 5:00 PM ET (New York time): http://submissions.aomonline.org/2012

PDW formats are highly flexible and can take the shape of workshops, panels, training sessions, etc. We seek creative and interactive proposals that would interest members of several academy divisions. It is a plus to include managers and/or consultants from firms, not-for-profit organizations, NGOs, and public sector organizations.  While we encourage submissions on this year's theme, we are most interested in submissions that bring together presenters with deep experience in some arena of practice with researchers on the given area of practice for dialogue, learning from one another, and generating reflection and action among Academy members – whether or not they directly address the 2012 theme.

This year's conference theme, "The Informal Economy," provides a forum to address activities that are beyond the influence of the formal market, the regulations of official institutions, and the representations of authorized company flow charts or documents.  Why and how does the informal economy matter, from the perspective of practice?  In particular, we invite you to take the challenge that a practice perspective offers to engage with questions like:

    1.                  What are the work practices that differentiate the formal economy from the informal economy?  How do we bridge theory and practice in understanding the cross-economy differences?

    2.                  How do volatility, uncertainty, and amorality in institutions encourage informal economic activities and practices? How do we co-create knowledge between practitioners and academics to understand the informal practices in relation to their environment?

    3.                  How do we foster the moral and the sacred in the leadership and management practices of the informal economy? How can we better understand the role of the "phronesis" in addressing 'mal-practice' and 'mis-management' in advancing greater accountability in research and practice?

    4.                  How do we advance management curricula, so that they address practice in a way that is relevant to both formal and informal aspects of the global economy?

The Practice Theme Committee was created by the Academy of Management to give practice a central focus in our deliberations, along with research and teaching.  We aim to:

    ·                     Develop greater awareness of what practice means and how it can usefully inform our scholarship in terms of both research and teaching.

    ·                     Identify and profile exemplar initiatives that bridge the gap between theory and practice and engage practitioners and academics in the co-creation of knowledge.

    ·                     Create a platform for ongoing engagement with practitioners so that the knowledge we discover is relevant and has impact.

Please note that the "Rule of Three" applies for the 2012 PDW program. If you have any questions before submitting, please contact Kuo Frank Yu FrankYu@CityU.Edu.HK, PDW co-chair, and Kathryn Goldman Schuyler, kgschuyler@alliant.edu, PDW co-chair.  Apologies for cross-posting!

The Tilburg Conference on Innovation:    Recombining Innovation Research

    June 15-17, 2012

Center for Innovation Research (CIR), Tilburg University,  The Netherlands

Innovation is a highly complex process in which managers juggle technical, organizational,

economic, social, and psychological aspects, each having distinct effects on innovation

inputs, processes, and outcomes. All these aspects are contingent on time and space and

affect the innovation process and outcomes at multiple levels. Due to this diversity of factors

and contingencies the field of innovation research is populated by scholars from many

disciplines studying a wide range of questions. While this richness is an asset, it can also

result in fragmentation and losing "the big picture" about how innovation unfolds in and

around organizations. Together, we will aim to build bridges between the various subfields,

topics and disciplines, with quality of research being the predominant goal.

Following the highly successful conference held in 2010, the second international conference

of the Center for Innovation Research at Tilburg University will bring together exemplary

scholars who study how innovation relates with the strategy, organization, learning and

performance of corporate and other entities. We are open to a variety of theoretical

perspectives and welcome papers that incorporate various levels that can affect innovation

    – e.g. nations, sectors, networks, clusters, single organizations, business units, teams or

individuals – as long as the papers recognize and contribute to the understanding of

innovation as an organizational phenomenon. We are looking mainly for empirical papers,

but strong, forward-looking theoretical contributions are also welcome. Please join us for

two days of intensive discussion and dialogue in the lush atmosphere of "De Rosep" resort.

The conference will take place at the Rosep Resort that also offers ample possibility for

accommodation. We encourage all conference participants to stay at the conference venue

due to co-location benefits and scarcity of alternative hotels nearby. An added attraction of

the conference is the opportunity to visit the southern Netherlands in spring and sample the

best local beers Belgium and the Netherlands have to offer. For all conference information,

    see the conference website:

    www.tilburguniversity.edu/research/institutes-and-research-groups/cir/conferences/june2012

    Confirmed speakers/special guests include:

Dan Levinthal,  Will Mitchell, Andrew van de Ven, Joe Lampel

    Submission process:

Please submit a full paper to cir@uvt.nl by February 15, 2012.

The authors of selected papers will be notified by March 30, 2012.

    Dear Colleagues,

Please see information below about the 2012 OBTS New Educator Award (NEA) nomination process and criteria for selection. Nominations are officially open for the 2012 New Educator Award. Please carefully consider the criteria for this special award and nominate someone you know who fits the "letter and spirit" of what the NEA is all about!

Purpose of the Award: The purpose of the OBTS New Educator Award is to recognize a person who has shown early promise to make a difference in the field of management education.  They are the new voices who promise to bring new ways of thinking about and practicing management education.

Criteria for Selection: To be eligible, nominees are to be at an early stage of their teaching careers. This includes a recent Ph.D. (within the past 5 years) who takes a full time, tenure track position following completion of their degree, or a Ph.D. who spends several years in a non-academic position, has very limited or no adjunct teaching experience during that time, and then (within the past 5 years) takes a full time, tenure track position. The New Educator Award recognizes an early-career person who is an exceptional classroom instructor and educational innovator and who has shown cutting-edge promise and creativity in his or her teaching, conference presentations, or publishing in the area of management education. Nominees need not be current OBTS members but should demonstrate Society involvement in some way (e.g., past conference attendee or presenter, published author in the Journal of Management Education, committee volunteer, etc.)

Requirements: Official nomination of individual by oneself or others is required.  Once formally nominated, the initial application is to document commitment and contributions to teaching and learning.  Materials must be submitted electronically and should include:

    2. an up-to-date CV;
    3. several course syllabi that reflect teaching philosophy in action;
    4. sample feedback materials (peer reviews, student evaluations, or other documentation) on teaching commitment and effectiveness;
    5. a writing sample, such as an article or chapter on aspects of pedagogy, is desirable but optional, as is involvement in other professional or service activities that focus on teaching.

Deadlines associated with the NEA: Electronically submitted nominations are due to Micheal Stratton (mstratto@unca.edu), Chair of the NEA Selection Committee by January 15, 2012, The nominee's application package is due (also to Micheal Stratton, mstratto@unca.edu) by January 31, 2012. The deadlines are set up such that the winner may have ample time to prepare to attend OBTC 2012 at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario from June 20-23, 2012 (www.obtc.org). As Chair, Micheal will be glad to discuss with anyone a potential nominee or answer any questions you may have about this award.

Reviewers on the Selection Committee for the OBTS New Educator Award seek to receive from the nominee a focused, succinct presentation of self-as-educator.  Reviewers do not seek volumes of material; rather, the file should speak to the candidate's merits and teaching strengths in a focused manner. Finalists may be requested to submit a more complete teaching portfolio as needed.

The Society: The OBTS Teaching Society for Management Educators is the oldest international professional organization dedicated to teaching and learning excellence in the organizational and management sciences. Society members are faculty at universities and colleges throughout the world, as well as business educators and management consultants. Through our annual teaching conference, regional professional development activities, strategic alliances, and publications (including the peer-reviewed Journal of Management Education), OBTS continuously strives to be a premiere provider of critical resources that impact the quality and future of management education.

    Best regards,

    ~Micheal
