    Dear Colleagues,

Please join us for "Conducting Academically Rigorous Research with Industry and Government to Address Big Social Issues" on Monday, 13th August 2018 (08:00-09:30am Swissotel-Lucerne III, Swissotel) at AOM 2018 in Chicago.  Feel encouraged to submit your questions/own challenges pertaining to this topic to this RSVP address: j.kalra@bath.ac.uk (more information below).

We (Beverly Tyler, Veronica Hope Hailey, Jens Roehrich, and Brian Squire) will craft a thought-provoking presenter symposium and will be providing coffee and pastries to encourage conversation and participation during this early morning session. We hope you will join us!

This symposium will be a unique opportunity to start a conversation with like-minded and engaged researchers working closely with industry and government to conduct cutting-edge management research. Academic institutions and individual researchers alike are challenged to not only deliver high-quality academic papers, but also to achieve wider societal impact. Major social challenges today such as productivity in economic development, delivery of clean water and safe energy, healthcare, and security, often require the commitment of business leaders, policymakers and researchers from a variety of management disciplines to integrate the required technical knowledge and expertise.

In our symposium, management researchers from strategy, change, innovation and supply chain management will share how they plan to deliver academically rigorous outputs alongside industry and government related outcomes in four very diverse research programs. The symposium will be chaired by Professor Beverly Tyler (North Carolina State University, USA) and will include four insightful presentations by academic researchers addressing the following questions:

§   Who are the key stakeholders involved in the partnership?

§   What is the partnership or program intended to accomplish?

§   When was the right time to start the dialogue, build competence trust with key stakeholder, and secure funding and resources?

§   How have the researchers operationalized the delivery of various outputs for academia, industry and government? How did they design an appropriate methodology for conducting rigorous research with practitioners and policymakers?

    ·         Why is a cross-sector collaboration required to address this big social issue?

Following these presentations, Professor Veronica Hope Hailey (University of Bath, School of Management, UK) will facilitate a discussion with the audience. We plan to begin the dialogue with questions from the audience, but also encourage your submission of relevant questions/challenges in advance of the symposium.

By July 31, 2018, please RSVP your planned attendance with Mr. Jas Kalra (University of Bath, School of Management) – j.kalra@bath.ac.uk, along with any questions you might like the panelists to discuss.

We hope this symposium sparks a wider discussion and debate on how to not only delivery academically rigorous papers, but also provide actionable insights for business leaders and policymakers.

We look forward to seeing you at this exciting symposium at AOM 2018 in Chicago.

    Kind regards,

    Beverly, Veronica, Jens, Brian
