Improving Lives via Responsible Research in Business & Management: A Debate to Illuminate an "Ecosystem-Path" Forward
Sunday, Aug 12th, 11:00AM – 1:00PM in Hyatt Regency Chicago, Room Regency A http://bit.ly/RRBMAOM1
Many of us are concerned that research in management too often lacks scientific credibility and societal value. There is ongoing debate both about this assessment and what, if anything, should be done if it's accurate. A group of faculty across five core business disciplines in 23 business-schools in ten countries recently launched a call for "Responsible Research in Business and Management." Please join eleven Past Presidents of AOM to discuss and debate this proposal for creating a research "eco-system" that encourages more "responsible" research. To catalyze the discussion, several Past Presidents will offer their different views on the proposal. We will then break into small group discussions led by each of the eleven past presidents: Paul Adler (2013), Ray Aldag (1992), Tom Cummings (2006), Angelo DeNisi (2009), Mike Hitt (1997), Tom Lee (2008), Jone Pearce (2003), Debra Shapiro (2016), Bill Starbuck (1998), Anne Tsui (2012) and Jim Walsh (2010).
Responsible Research Call to Action: Improving Lives by Improving Research Impact Sunday, Aug 12th, 4:00PM – 6:00PM in Hyatt Regency Chicago, Room Regency A http://bit.ly/RRBMAOM2
The purpose of this PDW is to focus on the how: How do we advance RRBM to produce research that strengthens the capacity of organizations while improving the lives of the people who work in and benefit from them? How can we improve our own lives as researchers by making our work more meaningful and impactful? In this PDW we lead a call to action by addressing how we can promote a responsible research ecosystem that generates (i.e., research-practice partnerships), publishes (i.e., impact standards for reviewers and editors) and rewards (i.e., portfolio approach) research based on credibility and impact. This will be a working session in small groups led by facilitators to identify and mobilize commitment to building a sustainable responsible research ecosystem. The PDW facilitators include Mary Uhl-Bien, Texas Christian U., Anne S. Tsui, U. of Notre Dame, Sim B. Sitkin, Duke U., William H. Glick, Rice U., Srilata Zaheer, U. of Minnesota, and Ingmar Bjorkman, Aalto U.
No pre-registration is necessary for either PDW. Please bring colleagues and friends. We look forward to seeing you there.
