Invitation to "Re-Thinking Science and Innovation in the Era of Datification", Data Week workshop, Jean Golding Institute, University of Bristol (UK).
Data science is transforming the way in which we view and practise science and innovation in various fields. Big data research, such as next-generation sequencing of genomes, has led to advances in genetic research. Big data from electronic patients' records can be used to build predictive models that support clinical decision making and early interventions on patients at risk of developing a condition. Data science has also made breakthroughs in the arts and humanities, as shown by recent developments in computational archaeology and digital humanities. Data sharing platforms and online communities are collaborative spaces for user-led knowledge creation and innovation.
Who is this event suitable for?
We are inviting participants from academia, not-for-profit and public sector organisations, industry, and entrepreneurs across disciplines and sectors. The interdisciplinary focus of the workshop will offer you the opportunity to learn about latest developments in data science for research and innovation, including its challenges and benefits, in a series of thought provoking and inspirational talks by researchers and practitioners.
Event topics
Advanced data science methods for scientific and social inquiry
Data-driven product design and service innovation
New modes of knowledge production and consumption through data analytics and social media
