E-Networks in an Increasingly Volatile World

The Eleventh International Workshop on Telework - Canada 2006

    Call for papers and participation

    www.unb.ca/conferences/enetworks

Following ten successful international workshops from 1996 to 2005, the International Telework Association (ITA) is pleased to announce that the University of New Brunswick (UNB) will host the eleventh event August 28–31, 2006 in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Fredericton</st1:city>, <st1:state w:st="on">New Brunswick</st1:state>, <st1:country-region w:st="on">Canada</st1:country-region></st1:place>. The workshop takes place in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">Canada</st1:country-region></st1:place>'s first city to support a free urban wireless network and aims to generate interaction and the sharing of ideas among academic researchers and business practitioners around the development and maintenance of computer-mediated networks. Authors of select articles will be invited to submit their paper for publication in a forthcoming book.

The theme of the 2006 workshop is "E-Networks in an Increasingly Volatile World". The changing role of employment and government, the increasing rate of technological innovation and a growing concern for continuity through periods of large-scale interruptions resulting from natural, technological, and human-induced events are some of the factors behind a growing sense of uncertainty and social turbulence. A major challenge today is how individuals, organizations and regions can leverage human capital to collaborate through unprecedented and complex work/life-scenarios. This workshop looks specifically at examining work strategies that involve e-networks that contribute to greater preparedness. We currently invite papers in the following themes:

    Special Streams for Workshop 2006

    1)    Mitigating risk via E-networks.

    2)    Creating public infrastructures that support E-networks

    3)    Work/life balance: The tangled web of work and home networks.

    Standing E-Work Streams

    1)    Organizational Change (complexity, ambiguity, conflict)

    2)    E-Collaboration, Technological Innovations and Support (platforms, collaboration)

    3)    Workspace Design (facilities, virtual space)

    4)    HRM Practices (diversity, professional development, retention)

    5)    E-learning in the workplace (content, delivery)

    6)    Community/Regional Initiatives (job creation, community viability, public policy)
