    TIM DIVISION ELECTIONS

(NOTE THE SURVEY URL HAS CHANGED)

    Dear TIM Members,

The 2006 TIM Division election process is upon us. In mid-April we will be having elections for Division officers and representatives–at-large.

However, first we need to identify individuals to run for the available positions.  Thus, we are now seeking your input for these nominations.

Note that self nominations are also welcome.

To submit nominations, visit the following website,

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=44994440231.   Please act quickly as the

deadline for submitting nominations is Friday, April 7, 2006.  It would expedite the process if you could secure the nominee's agreement prior to submitting his/her name.

We are looking for nominations for the following positions: 1) Three elected Representatives-at-Large (2 year term) and 2) One Program Chair-Elect (5 year term).

The elected representatives-at-large participate in leading and running the division. The program chair elect is a five year position which leads to being the chair of the division.

    Kind Regards,

    Laura B. Cardinal

    Past Division Chair

    2006 BPS Doctoral Student Consortium

The Business Policy and Strategy Division will sponsor a doctoral consortium during the pre-conference period of the 2006 Annual Meeting of the <st1:placetype w:st="on">Academy</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Management</st1:placename> in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Atlanta</st1:city>, <st1:country-region w:st="on">Georgia</st1:country-region></st1:place>. The objectives of the consortium are to support late-stage doctoral students as they shape and finalize their dissertations, to introduce them to some of their future colleagues, and to enhance their scholarship, teaching and overall development. To qualify for the consortium, a candidate must be in the early or proposal stage of his or her dissertation. Due to space constraints, the consortium can ordinarily accommodate only one student from each school.  If a school would like to nominate more than one candidate, the school's doctoral Chair should clearly indicate the priority of the candidates and should communicate the priorities to

the students at the time of nomination. The consortium will be held on Friday, August 11 from 6 pm to 9 pm; Saturday, August 12 from 8 am to 5 pm, and on Sunday, August 13, from 8 am to noon.

    The 2006 consortium co-chairs are Jan Rivkin (<st1:placename w:st="on">Harvard</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype>) and Tammy L. Madsen (<st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Santa Clara</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype></st1:place>). The faculty panel consists of Joel Baum (<st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Toronto</st1:placename>), Ming-Jer Chen (<st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Virginia</st1:placename>), Yves Doz (INSEAD), Donald Hambrick (<st1:placename w:st="on">Penn</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">State</st1:placetype> <st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype>), Riitta Katila (<st1:placename w:st="on">Stanford</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype>), Jackson Nickerson (<st1:placename w:st="on">Washington</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype> @ St. Louis), Margaret Peteraf  (<st1:city w:st="on">Dartmouth</st1:city>), and Minyuan Zhao (<st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Minnesota</st1:placename></st1:place>).

Interested doctoral candidates must apply in the writing by May 5, 2006 by submitting:

    1)    a current CV;

    2)    a statement indicating a commitment to attend if accepted; and

    3)    a letter from the thesis chairman or preferably the department Chair nominating the applicant to represent the school at the consortium. The nomination letter should also verify that the candidate is in the process of writing a dissertation and what support will be given to the candidate by the school.

Applications should be sent electronically to tmadsen@scu.edu. The preferred format is a single Word document with the candidates last name included in the file name.  If electronic submission is not possible then applications can be sent to the following address:

    HICSS-40

    Minitrack on Standards and Standardization

    January 3-6, 2007

    http://www.joelwest.org/HICSS/

On behalf of Kalle Lyytinen and myself, I'd like to invite you to submit a paper to the 4th HICSS Minitrack on Standards and Standardization. This will take place during the HICSS conference in Waikoloa on the Big Island of Hawaii.

The minitrack was originally founded by Kai Jakobs at HICSS-34. After a lull of a few years, we revived the minitrack with HICSS-38, and this will be third consecutive year for the minitrack. In January 2006, organizers told us we had one of the best-attended paper sessions and we certainly had a stimulating discussion among those present.

We welcome papers on all topics related to standards and standardization, and every year the topics differ. We have had papers from the sociotechnical, economics and technical perspective; authors have examined IT compatibility standards, vertical industry standards and internal company standards; we've had theoretical models, interview-based studies and classic regression analysis.

All of these topics and more are welcome. This year we're also encouraging authors to think about how standards enable cooperation across value networks (ecosystems of firms), and how those networks drive standardization.

The HICSS conference is a confederation of tracks and minitracks related to computer science and information systems; attendees welcome the opportunity to attend focused sessions related to a wide range of topics that intersect these fields. Larger tracks include digital media, e-government, IT in health care and knowledge management. Among other minitracks that might be of interest to standards researchers are those on open source software, economics of IS, and innovation management.

The call for papers for the minitrack is on the minitrack website. The deadline for submissions is June 15. All accepted papers will be published in proceedings and permanently indexed in IEEE Xplore.

If you have any questions about a possible topic, please feel free to contact Kalle or myself. You can also see the minitrack website for examples of previous minitrack topics, as well as links to information about the overall conference.

We look forward to seeing you in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:state w:st="on">Hawaii</st1:state></st1:place>!
