    Apologies for cross-posting!

Opportunities for doing research that spans across existing disciplinary divisions are scarce. With this panel symposium, we would like to draw your attention to service innovation as a phenomenon that is understudied but may be providing such possibilities. Please join us to discuss the pathways for strengthening the conceptual integration and contributions of such types of boundary-spanning research.

(OM) Panel Symposium: Service Innovation Research: Towards Integration and Rigor

    Monday, Aug 4 2014 3:00PM - 4:30PM at Philadelphia Marriott Downtown in Room 408

While services dominate the world's major economies both in terms of added value and employment, the academic attention to studying service innovation from a management perspective has been disproportionately less compared to that to other innovation forms (Keupp et al., 2012; Bowen & Ford, 2002; Drejer, 2004). Keupp et al. (2012)'s recent systematic review of the strategic management of innovation literature revealed a staggering neglect of this type of innovation with very few works tackling problems from this domain. The purpose of this panel symposium is to address some of the issues that may explain this imbalance and discuss remedying paths forward. The setup of this symposium builds on two pillars: 1) integration of insights and stimulating dialogue across management disciplines and 2) strengthening the contributions of research and pathways to developing a distinctive theory of service innovation.
