THE DEPARTMENT
Urban Technology is a research program of the Faculty of Technology of the AUAS. It focuses on researching, designing and realizing smart technological solutions for the city. Within our four programmes Smart Urban Design, Smart Mobility and Logistics, Circular Design and Production, and Smart Energy Systems, around 35 FTE researchers and hundreds of students carry out applied research in close cooperation with regional partners.
Within Smart Energy Systems, an enthusiastic team is studying the use of the public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. In this field, we are working closely together with the four largest municipalities in The Netherlands as well as leading companies involved in the development of charging infrastructure. Based on a unique set of charging data, the team is carrying out data analyses, forecasting, simulations, policy evaluations and cost-benefit analyses in order to help actors involved in the chain to roll out smart strategies for the charging infrastructure.
Our research therefore aims at contributing actively to lowering barriers regarding the use of electric vehicles, such as improving the business case, optimizing the use of charging infrastructure and creating preconditions for this to occur.
