Dear colleagues,
A gentle reminder that the deadline for this year's ETH Academy on Sustainability and Technology is fast approaching - 13 March 2016. The theme of the Academy is "Innovation for Sustainability: The Role of Technologies, Organizations and Institutions" and it will take place from June 17 to 22, 2016 in the midst of the beautiful mountain scenery of the Swiss Alps.
This year the academy is open to PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and junior faculty with a background in management, innovation studies, economics or political
science to present their research to an audience of like-minded scholars and four international faculty members. Participants will obtain detailed feedback on their research design, theoretical approaches and methodology. In addition, there will be plenty of room for informal discussions and networking with other junior scholars and professors. This year's faculty consists of:
* Dr. Andrew Van de Ven, Professor of Organizational Innovation and Change, University of Minnesota, USA
* Dr. Desirée Pacheco, Assistant Professor in Management and Sustainability, Portland State University, USA
* Dr. Jessika Trancik, Assistant Professor of Energy Studies, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA
* Dr. Volker Hoffmann, Professor for Sustainability and Technology, ETH Zurich, Switzerland
Research of the participants should focus on but is not limited to the following topics:
Technology and innovation strategies of organizations in the context of sustainability;
Technology and innovation policy for energy, climate or water;
Role of institutions for technological and organizational change in the context of sustainability;
Innovation systems and technological change in the context of sustainability;
Socio-technical or techno-economic assessment of technologies related to sustainability
To guarantee an intensive learning process, attendance is limited to 15 junior scholars. Third-party funding allows us to offer a participation fee of only CHF 400 (ca. 460 USD) which covers accommodation, meals and excursions.
Applications should be sent to Aoife Brophy Haney (
abrophy@ethz.ch) and include (i) a cover letter explaining the applicant¹s motivation, (ii) a proposal abstract of max. 2 pages, and (iii) a CV. The deadline for application is March 13, 2016.
