Telfer School, University of Ottawa, Canada - Faculty position in Social Innovation

The Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa is seeking applications for a faculty position in Social Innovation commencing July 1, 2016.

Social innovations offer novel solutions to social problems that are more effective, sustainable, or just than current solutions. They typically address issues that have traditionally fallen under the purview of public policy but which have not been effectively addressed by governments or corporations, and in such areas as the improvement of social well-being, the alleviation of poverty and inequality, the improvement of governance, or the halting of environmental degradation. Social innovations are further characterized by the value created from innovations addressing such problems accruing significantly to society rather than to particular individuals. Associated ventures and their entrepreneurs often create social value and public goods by leveraging the private and public sector's capabilities and combining them in a novel manner often via cross-sector interactions and collaborations.

The University of Ottawa, a top-ten research-intensive university in Canada, is committed to becoming a globally-recognized institution and to creating and sustaining an entrepreneurial culture across campus. We hope with this new faculty position to leverage our highly ranked Faculties of Medicine, Engineering and Law, internationally accredited School of Management, and our programs in international development and environmental sustainability. We are looking for candidates who have developed or are in the process of developing a research program examining mission-oriented ventures that are successfully addressing social, governance, and/or environmental challenges and who seek to draw on this work for the benefit of managers and graduate and undergraduate business students.

    Terms: Tenure-track position
