For those of you who might be interested, I just had the privilege of co-authoring a book with Bill Tholl entitled, Bringing Leadership to Life in Health: The LEADS in a Caring Environment framework. It is published by Springer (http://www.springer.com/medicine/book/978-1-4471-4874-6 ).
It is not an attempt to extend academic leadership theory, but to apply leadership concepts to the challenge of working in the health sector in countries like Canada, Australia, and the UK (less so the USA due to its different nature, although current changes happening there will make the change focus of the book pertinent). Health has a unique context in which to apply leadership principles and practices.
Those of you in the public sector environment (education, health, public service, charitable service) will find an argument for treating leadership development and succession planning as a public good, utilizing a commonly agreed upon competency (or in this case capability) framework to stimulate collective action.
Please take a look if it is of interest.
