Call for 2013 TIM Best Dissertation Award Submissions
Abstract Submission Deadline: February 1, 2013
THE TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION MANAGEMENT DIVISION
of the Academy of Management is pleased to invite submissions for the 2013 TIM Best Dissertation Award.
We will accept submissions based on doctoral dissertations completed during calendar years 2011 and 2012.
We take a broad perspective on technology and innovation including aspects of the emergence, diffusion, adoption, commercialization, evolution and consequences of technologies and innovations.
The TIM Division's domain statement can be found at http://www.aomtim.org/.
As per the domain statement, we welcome dissertations from different disciplinary perspectives including management (strategy, organization theory, organizational behavior etc.) as well as economics, technology studies, sociology, etc. We are also happy to consider a broad range of methodologies.
The award process involves two stages.
In the first stage, each applicant submits a 5-page dissertation abstract (see details below) along with supporting references and figures. A committee of experienced scholars then selects the finalists.
In the second stage, finalists are invited to submit a 30-page manuscript based upon their dissertation. The committee reviews these manuscripts, provides feedback, and selects the best dissertation, which will be announced at the 2013 Annual Academy of Management Meeting in Orlando.
Finalists will be invited to present their work at a dedicated session during the conference, when the winner will be announced. The session will afford high visibility to the finalists' dissertations.
Submission Requirements:
• Submit one copy of the first-stage award submission electronically to Kira Fabrizio (kfab@bu.edu) with the subject "TIM Dissertation Award Submission" by February 1, 2013.
• Your submission should include two files: (1) a cover page and (2) your dissertation abstract (which includes text summary, references, and supporting materials). Please use your last name in naming the files as Lastname-file1.doc and Lastname-file2.doc. File names will be changed after receipt to provide anonymity.
• In the first file, the cover page should include the following information:
1. Dissertation title
2. Author's name

6. Author's current affiliation information (affiliation(s), job title(s), corresponding address, telephone, fax, and email)
7. Up to five keywords that describe the main theme(s) of the dissertation
This should be the only page to include identifying author, school, and committee information.
• In the second file, the dissertation abstract must follow these requirements:
1. Five page limit for the text summarizing the dissertation's contents
2. One inch margins
3. Times New Roman or equivalent font – no smaller than 12 point
4. Double-spaced text
5. The text should have page numbers starting with "1"
6. The dissertation title should be on page "1" and may be single spaced
• You may include up to five pages of references that may be single-spaced. These do not count towards the page limit for the text of the dissertation abstract.
• You may include up to five pages of supporting materials (tables, figures, appendices, etc.) beyond the text summary and the references.
• Do not submit a complete dissertation. Finalists will be asked to submit a manuscript of up to 30 pages subsequently.

• Submissions should be made in .doc format.
• The award is meant for Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral theses. If you have any question about eligibility, please contact the Dissertation Award Co-Chairs well in advance of the deadline for abstract submission.

Call for Abstracts:
Sustainability, Ethics and Entrepreneurship (SEE) Conference
Dates: Thursday-Friday, April 11-12, 2013
Location: University of Denver, Denver, CO
Conference Website: biz.colostate.edu/seeConference<http://biz.colostate.edu/seeConference>
Building on a vibrant cohort of scholars in ethics, entrepreneurship, and sustainability around the world, the SEE Conference features diverse scholars who lead the development of these important and rapidly changing areas of study.
Sustainability, ethics, and entrepreneurship (SEE) draw on knowledge from diverse backgrounds. These include but are not limited to studies on sustainability, social entrepreneurship, business ethics, firm-community ties, and environment impacts, to name a few. The fact that ethics and sustainability are intertwined with the concept of entrepreneurship is no longer new. Indeed, ethical choices are increasingly critical any business activity and a key to success of startups, small firms, medium enterprises, and large, multinational corporations. Some even suggest that the focus on sustainability, ethics, and entrepreneurship triangulates every economic opportunity and social value. The goal of the conference is to lead the advancement and accumulation of knowledge about SEE-related topics.
This sharing of scholarly research is the foundation of the annual SEE Conference. In 2012, the SEE Conference attracted scholars from diverse universities and businesses across six countries. In 2013, the conference will continue to serve as a platform for discussing cutting-edge research, ideas and theories, fostering collaborative efforts and building a worldwide network of scholars who advance the state of knowledge about SEE-related research. In addition, the conference will feature keynote speakers who are thought leaders including Jay Barney, Presidential Professor of Strategic Management at the University of Utah.
Authors are invited to submit abstracts (2 single-spaced pages not exceeding 1,250 words) that address a broad array of subjects on the topics of sustainability, ethics, and entrepreneurship (SEE). Those selected by a double-blind review process will be asked to present at either paper or poster sessions during the 2013 conference April 11-12.
There is no registration fee; however, submitting an abstract signifies a commitment that at least one of the authors will participate in the conference. Submitting an abstract also represents a commitment that the featured ideas are original and come from unpublished working papers. Finally, the conference is limited to 120 attendees; about 24 manuscripts; and 12 posters.
Thursday, April 11, 2013 will showcase companies that pioneer efforts in sustainability, ethics, and/or entrepreneurship and an evening reception to all participants Friday, April 12, 2013 will feature the latest scholarly work from leading faculty around the world.
Thanks to the Kauffman Foundation and other contributions, the SEE Conference will provide meals and beverages to all participants. The SEE Conference will also pay the hotel and/or travel costs for selected Ph.D. students and early-stage assistant professors. We will issue more detail on this in a few weeks.
We invite empirical and conceptual Abstracts. Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following areas:
* How does strategy differ when firms are not constituted as vehicles of private wealth accumulation but are owned by communities of members or government?
* In a capitalist system, wealth and value are measured in monetary units: what is social value, how does to measure social value, and what do social value and economic value interact and shape each other?
* Free markets and competition brought many benefits (e.g., the average individual material wellbeing has improved markedly, even if the variance is distressing). How does this increasing but uneven material prosperity relate to human wellbeing, sustainability and entrepreneurship?
* How does market competition affect the fabric of trust and social value within and between different organizational forms?
* How does one gain better understandings of sustainable and ethical entrepreneurship?
* What are most useful conceptual models and empirical analysis of the antecedents, consequences, and contingencies associated with the processes of sustainable and ethical entrepreneurship?
* What is the role of ethical behavior in the growth, survival, and sustainability of new ventures?
* What are the roles of economic and institutional systems in motivating ethical and sustainable behaviors?
IMPORTANT DEADLINES
January 8, 2013: Abstract Submission Deadline February 18, 2013: Acceptance Notification March 1, 2013: Program Published

SUBMITTING ABSTRACT(S)
The following suggestions are provided in response to frequent questions on how to improve the chances that an abstract will be accepted.
The conference reviewers are members of the SEE's Advisory Board and a group of ad-hoc reviewers. Every abstract is evaluated by 2-4 reviewers. While each reviewer makes independent judgments, there are some common threads that distinguish accepted from rejected abstracts:
· Abstracts that open up new research frontiers or offer new insights or perspectives that enrich discussion and discourse.
· Abstracts that address unimpeachably important, timely, and relevant topics.
· Abstracts where SEE-related research has clear conceptual and/or practical implications.
· It is helpful to state the current stage of data collection and when you expect to complete the data collection and analysis.
· The reviewers consider the potential for completion of the work described in the abstract.
· Reviewers assume that authors of accepted abstracts entered with good faith and expect that the research will be competently completed before the conference.
· Do not include references, tables, and the like in the abstract. Also your name or contact information should NOT appear anywhere in the document.

Call for Chapters: Harnessing the Power of Social Media and Web Analytics: Techniques, Tools, and Applications
Proposals Submission Deadline: October 15, 2012 Full Chapters Due: February 15, 2013 Submission Date: July 31, 2013
Editors:
Anteneh Ayanso (Brock University, Canada) Kevin Lertwachara (California Polytechnic State University, USA.)
Introduction:
The Internet has dominantly become the most cost effective and efficient communication channel between organizations and customers today. In particular, social media has opened a new marketing channel for marketers to attract new customers and improve their performance. Compared with the slow growth of traditional marketing channels, social media continues to grow at a steady rate. Businesses are increasingly recognizing that greater visibility on the Internet and social media captures customers'
interest in their businesses and product or service offerings.
Despite the significant role social media is playing in business, scholarly research on the analytics that drive social media marketing is very limited. Given the new frontiers and issues social media deals with, traditional performance metrics and frameworks may not properly serve the needs of marketers in monitoring and evaluating their social marketing endeavors. There is also limited work that attempts to synthesize the developments and practices in social media and web analytics. This book proposes to address this need by bringing academic and practitioner perspectives on social media and web analytics. The book is intended to be an important reference for academics and practitioners on the recent developments as well as the various tools, techniques, and applications of social media and web analytics.
Objectives of the Book:
Social media analytics involves algorithms, models, tools, practices, and metrics to monitor brands, industry, and competition across social media and the web. Social media analytics empowers businesses to derive intelligence from popular social media sites by analyzing conversation data. It provides the foundation to social CRM strategy by allowing businesses to quantify, understand, and respond to customers'
conversations about their corporate reputation and brands within online communities. It involves sentiment and behavioral analysis, and monitoring customer interactions within online communities.
From research perspectives, academics in the fields of information systems and marketing are currently generating several new ideas, modeling perspectives, and research directions. Documenting and synthesizing these research outputs and making them available to practitioners and future researchers will be extremely valuable. Therefore, the overall mission of this proposed book is to contribute towards this goal by documenting high quality research outputs, industry practices, and future research directions on social media and web analytics.
Target Audience:
The proposed book can serve both academic and industry audiences. In academic context, the book can be utilized either as a primary or supplementary reference on the theoretical perspectives, techniques, models, and software applications of social media analytics. The book can also serve as up-to-date reference on the current and potential future applications and practices of social media and web analytics in various industries.

The following are some recommended topics. Any other related topics will be considered.

Please consider the special call for paper for CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION MANAGEMENT
Special Issue in Creativity and Innovation Management: "ORGANIZING IDEATION, CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION: THE ROLE OF SOCIAL NETWORKS"
Submission Deadline: February 1st, 2013
BACKGROUND
The environment in which organizations behave and perform is widely characterized by turbulence and uncertainty. In light of increasing competition, technical complexity, and institutional instability, firms are urged to actively seek performance throughout innovation. Especially in high tech industries, the survival and growth of organizations is nowadays strongly related to their creative and innovative capabilities.
Extant literature suggests that innovation is constituted by complex organizational processes, and that collaborative networks between people and organizations are of quintessential importance for innovativeness. Despite the ample debate and empirical evidence provided in this field, this topic is in our opinion yet far from fully explored. For example, we know that networks between individuals and organizations are at the heart of innovation in many industries. But we know very little about network formation processes, as well as antecedents of specific network ties and structures in high tech industries. In addition, there is scant knowledge about organizational capabilities that build and foster fruitful relationships for innovation. It is frequently acknowledged that organizations need to master exploration and exploitation to achieve innovation, but again we do not know what role collaborative relationships – at both individual and organizational levels - may play in this context. Another unclear issue is the impact of collaborative ties on the absorptive capacity of organizations, another important condition which allows organizations to access, integrate, combine, and transform their knowledge. In addition, we recognize that the ample evidence produced on this topic up has been limited mainly to creativity and innovation as outcome measures, whereas much less attention has been paid to the specific network structures that foster ideation, an important prerequisite of organizational innovation. Some limitations also refer to the industries investigated by prior research, as very little is known about network formation and evolution in emergent industries such as nanotech, nanomedicine, etc. Finally, we recognize that it has been widely documented that loosely coupled, modular, and temporary forms of organizing are important for promoting change and innovation. However, there is a dearth of study on the effective impact of these and other emerging forms such as "project ecology" on innovative performance.
The special issue calls for theoretical and empirical contributions that explore varieties of organizational models which foster ideation, creativity and innovation, with a specific emphasis on network forms of organizing.
We welcome papers that address issues related, without being limited, to the following areas:
· The role of collaborative networks for ideation and creativity
· Interpersonal/interorganizational networks and innovation
· Industry-academia interaction and innovation
· Social capital and its impact on innovative performance
· The role of networks in individual and collective learning
· Dynamics of co-authorship (patents and publications) in R&D contexts
· Spatial clustering of ideas and innovation
· Managing distributed- and networked innovation
· Open innovation and online communities
· The interplay between collaboration and competition in innovation
· Temporary forms of organizing (PBOs, project ecologies, etc.)
· Product modularity, interorganizational relations and innovation
· Network forms of organization and service innovation

We seek to expand our existing strengths in one of the core areas of the department, including: science, technology and innovation; energy and environment; economic development; information and communication technologies; and health.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vita; a statement of research and teaching interests with clear evidence of demonstrated teaching success and the potential for a successful research program; copies of one to three papers; and the names of three people who will write letters of reference.
