Call for Abstracts: AOM Symposium on Refugees/Displaced People in the Workplace
Dear AOM Scholars,
We are putting together a presenter symposium on Refugees in the Workplace to submit to the 79th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management <https://aom.org/annualmeeting/> in Boston, which will take place August 9-13, 2019, and whose theme is making Organizations Inclusive. We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your work for inclusion within that symposium.
Scope of the Topic
The Syrian civil began in March of 2011, and since then more than 6.3 million Syrians have fled the country. According to Mercy Corps, there are approximately 68 million displace people around the world and approximately 2/3 of these are from the following 5 countries: Syria, Afghanistan, South Sudan, Myanmar, and Somalia. In addition, according to UN figures, approximately 2.3 Venezuelans have fled their country in the last 2 years due to a severe economic problems resulting in starvation and health problems.
As we approach year 9 of the Syrian crisis, we are interested in how refugees are seeking and obtaining work. What special work-related challenges are displaced people facing? How do these displaced people manage their careers?
If you are interested in having your work included in this symposium submission, please send a 250-500 word abstract of that work to ssegrest@mail.usf.edu by December 12th 2018.
