The LUISS PhD Program in Management is a disciplined – but not disciplinary – learning path for high potential doctoral candidates. It offers concentrations in strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship, marketing, accounting, and corporate finance. Primary areas of faculty research include: business model innovation; corporate governance; finance for innovation; new venture formation, growth, and corporate entrepreneurship; organizational learning and adaptation; public management and accounting; social capital and innovation; and word-of-mouth-led innovation. Faculty focuses on diverse empirical contexts ranging from the aerospace and creative industries to the health service and the public sector. LUISS faculty have published papers in Administrative Science Quarterly, Industrial and Corporate Change, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of International Management, Journal of Marketing Research, Organization Science, Psychological Science, Research Policy, and Strategic Management Journal.
The Faculty includes: Andrea Prencipe (Director of the PhD program), Paolo Boccardelli, Matteo De Angelis, Michele Costabile, Luca Giustiniano, Isabella Leone, Luigi Marengo, Alessandro Marino, Raffaele Oriani, Richard Priem, and Francesco Rullani. Visiting professors Andrew Davies, Tim Folta, Nicolai Foss, Dan Levinthal (also acting as Scientific Advisor), Alessandro Lomi, Hans Pennings, Toke Reichstein, Vanina Torlò, Jan Van den Ende, and Filippo Carlo Wezel complement the PhD Faculty.
The PhD program is comprised of four years of full-time study. The first two years are dedicated to coursework, while the third and fourth years are dedicated to research and dissertation. Year 1 consists of disciplinary courses in management and research methods. Year 2 is dedicated to courses on a chosen field of specialization, concluding with the development of a research proposal. Years 3 and 4 are devoted to research and to dissertation preparation, culminating in the submission and defense of the thesis. To develop a program suited to their interests, students are encouraged to gain research experience by closely working with the LUISS faculty and to spend at least one semester at an internationally renowned research university.
Recent placements include Bocconi University (I), Carlos III University (ES), Copenhagen Business School (DK), University of Hamburg (DE) and University of San Francisco State (US).
