    ===========

    The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) seeks proposals from scholars in economics and related fields for its Thomas Alva Edison Visiting Scholars Program. The program enlists distinguished academic researchers to study intellectual property, including support for a White House initiative to develop more robust data and research on the issues bearing on patent litigation.  The program is designed for senior scholars with a proven track record, but exceptional proposals from junior scholars will be considered.

    Scholars devote up to six months of full time service to the agency, or up to a year if part-time. Other full or part time schedules will be considered and should be detailed in proposals. Scholars are financially compensated, either directly with temporary employment contracts or through reimbursement to their home institution. The USPTO anticipates some support for travel. Scholars can begin work as early as January 2014. Expected starting dates should be included in proposals.

    Application Instructions:

    Submit a two‐page proposal, with a CV, that includes a clear statement of the research question; a brief discussion of the methodologies to be used; a description of any data required (both existing datasets and those yet to be developed); and any other relevant information.

    Proposals should be submitted with a CV by email to edisonscholar@uspto.gov by December 1, 2013.  Please direct any questions to edisonscholar@uspto.gov.  For more information, please visit: http://www.uspto.gov/ip/init_events/edisonscholar.jsp
