    Overview

The Strategic Human Capital (SHC) field attracts a heterogeneous group of scholars from the strategy and human resource management areas, with disciplinary backgrounds in economics, psychology and sociology. This exciting Extension aims at moving the field forward by advancing interdisciplinary perspectives and exploring novel methodologies and data sources. Panel discussions are expected to center around issues like:

§  New perspectives on mobility and matching: How do firms combine internal and external labor markets to gain, motivate, and empower their talent?

§  Strategic Organization Design: How do firm structures and micro-level resources interact in the creation of firm value?

§  Systems, configurations, and complementarities: How can interdisciplinary perspectives on HC systems, complementarities, and value creation be used to advance our view of SHC?

§  New research methods and data: Big data from within and external to firms provide novel opportunities and challenges, and needs for new methodologies and data handling and gathering approaches.

    Call for Poster Proposals

The goal of this extension is to generate rich discussions among strategic human capital scholars (and practitioners), and to this end we'd like to invite you to submit a poster proposal in the form of a research paper abstract of 150 words or less. Our goal is to include exciting, novel, thoughtful research posters on strategic human capital (broadly defined), which enriches and furthers the conversations at the extension. Thus we encourage you to showcase your best current work (including papers that might be accepted at the SMS main conference) in your poster proposal. The extension schedule includes long breaks between sessions during which attendees and panelists can mill around poster presentations and discuss research with the poster paper authors.

We will consider proposals on a first come first served basis (but no later than August 1, 2016), with continuous acceptance of proposals as they come in (response time: 72-96 hours). Please email your proposals to us at: dsomaya@illinois.edu. Submission of a poster proposal will constitute a commitment to register and attend the extension (if selected).

    Location

The LMU Munich Extension will be held at the Carl Friedrich von Siemens Foundation in Munich. The foundation is located within an annex at Munich's historic Nymphenburg Palace. Munich is a convenient transit airport to Berlin (location of the SMS main conference), and is connected by air with many cities around the world.

Extension Hotel: Vi Vadi Hotel, Bayerstr. 89. A limited number of rooms have been blocked until July 20th.

Early registration and hotel bookings are highly recommended. Please note that a major exhibition is taking place in Munich at the same time and Oktoberfest starts on the following weekend, so hotel space is scarce!
