This panel invites papers submissions exploring the relationship between sustainability reporting and firms' innovation strategies at the upcoming R&D Management Conference 2024.  The conference is set to take place from 17-19 June 2024 at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. Conference website: https://rnd2024.org/

Paper presentations and discussions will explore how sustainability targets lead companies to push for innovations and strategy changes to meet their climate goals.

    Track Details:

In recent years, many companies have adopted commitments to climate change mitigation as a specific form of environmental management practice. Voluntary climate disclosure initiatives, such as, the Science based targets initiative (SBTi), the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and the Climate Action 100+ (CA100+), have attracted interest from different stakeholders. The proliferation of companies setting sustainability targets helps in broadcasting the companies' responsibility to mitigate their environmental impact. But how does the commitment translate to actual behavioral change? How does the overall corporate strategy change because of such commitments? How do companies push for innovation to stay competitive while adhering to their climate commitments?

Do companies undertake meaningful change after signing up for voluntary climate change mitigation?

And if so, what examples of concrete actions do companies undertake after committing to such targets to mitigate their climate impact?

Are they incremental or are they drastic pivots from their original business models?

This panel invites related papers that investigate the relationship between sustainability reporting and firms' innovation strategy using the questions posed as inspiration.
