    Call for Short Papers – EGOS 2025, Sub-theme 07
Local Interactions and Place-Based Organizing: The Spatial Foundations of Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Competition

How do places shape how organizations innovate, collaborate, and compete? Despite digitization and globalization, micro-geographic dynamics, local identities, and community-based action continue to influence entrepreneurship and economic activity worldwide.

We invite scholars from strategy, organizational theory, economic geography, innovation studies, sociology, urban studies, and related fields to submit short papers to EGOS SWG 07.

We welcome work on topics including (but not limited to):

    • Unplanned social encounters and spatial proximity in innovation and entrepreneurship
    • Localized institutions, identities, and competitive dynamics
    • Community-based entrepreneurship, spatial diversity, and collective action
    • The role of infrastructure and the built environment in shaping entrepreneurial ecosystems
    • New forms of geographic data (e.g., mobility data, street-level imagery, ethnographic mapping)
    • Spatial inequalities and innovation in low- and middle-income countries
    • Tensions between local identity preservation and global knowledge flows

Short papers should be submitted via the EGOS Member Area by January 7 (12:00 CET): EGOS - Home - European Group for Organizational Studies

    Sub-theme convenors:
Laura E. Dupin (University of Amsterdam)
Maria P. Roche (Harvard Business School)
    Sunasir Dutta (University of Minnesota)
