Come join the AOM2025 PDW on Innovating for Science Commercialization and Academic Entrepreneurship!

    πŸ—“ Saturday Β· 26 July 2025

    ⏰ 08:30 – 11:30

    πŸ“ Bella Center - Hall C Β· C3-m5

    OVERVIEW

You are welcome to attend and participate in this PDW aimed at scholars interested in the latest advances in researching and teaching science commercialization and academic entrepreneurship, with an emphasis on how research and teaching can add unique value to university-based inventing teams when they intersect with inventors' practice in a timely manner.

We will explore how organizational and management scholars with diverse interests may not only conceptualize, model, and theorize the impacts of universities on their economic and social environments, but also increase, speed, and shape them.

As university funders and other stakeholders call for more positive societal impact from universities, it creates opportunities for innovative business-school research and teaching that, in some forms, can directly influence practice in real time to create impact. Because Early Career Researchers are increasingly expected to engage with practitioners and to generate impact, this PDW is designed not only to expose them to innovative research and teaching but also to opportunities for synergy and alignment of their research and teaching with their own and their institution's impact agenda. Experienced faculty, who may be positioned inside their university to champion, implement, and institutionalize innovative practice-focused research and teaching programs, will also benefit.

We therefore see this PDW as providing a one-stop shop for both early-career and senior researchers to gain an overview of recent innovations in research and teaching of science commercialization and academic entrepreneurship, including ones that intersect in bespoke, timely, value-adding ways with practice to realize impact.

    FORMAT

The 3-hour workshop will feature several types of interventions.

First, there will be short presentations by panelists about lessons drawn from their own research and teaching of science commercialization and academic entrepreneurship.

Second, following the presentations, participants will engage in small-group discussions to reflect on the insights shared, exchange diverse perspectives, and identify key challenges and opportunities relevant to their contexts. The groups will report back on their discussions, with the opportunity to seek clarification from presenters, pose deeper questions, and connect the presentations and discussions to their own experiences.

Third, in the subsequent ideation session, participants will collaborate to apply the insights gained to their professional contexts. The goal is to develop actionable strategies, identify potential partnerships, and align their efforts with broader institutional or societal impact agendas.

Finally, the workshop will conclude with a plenary sharing session, where participants highlight key takeaways and insights from the ideation activities, solidifying a shared understanding and paving the way for ongoing collaboration and implementation.

Overall, the objective is for participants to receive and give concrete suggestions, along with panelists and other participants, to build a community that collaboratively ideates, develops, and disseminates innovations in research and teaching for impact.
