Dear colleagues,
We are delighted to invite you to submit your work to our track "Twin Transition" at the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) 2026, taking place June 15–17 in Milan, Italy.
What is Twin Transition?
The Twin Transition captures the ambition of aligning the digital and the green transition to address urgent sustainability challenges and societal transformation. It reflects a vision where digital technologies act not merely as tools for efficiency, but as enablers of transformative change toward sustainable futures.
The concept of Twin Transition goes beyond existing concepts such as green IT/IS, digital sustainability, co-transformation, or twin transformation by also emphasizing the societal level in addition to the organizational level. This positions it as a unique integrative lens that can help overcome disciplinary silos and foster more holistic approaches to complex socio-technical challenges.
This track seeks to position Twin Transition as a frontier research area within IS, welcoming both contributions that advance its theoretical and practical development, and those that engage critically with its assumptions, applications, and limitations.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Conceptual foundations: frameworks, models, paradoxes, and critical perspectives
- Organizational change: leadership, business models, and organizational capabilities
- Technological enablers: AI, IoT, blockchain, and sustainable digital infrastructures
- Policy & governance: regulatory challenges, public-private partnerships, and global coordination
- Sectoral applications: energy, manufacturing, smart cities, healthcare, education
- Ethical & social dimensions: justice, inclusion, responsible innovation, and digital divides
- Future directions: methods, cross-cultural perspectives, and next-generation frameworks
