Strategy Education in the AI Economy: Executive Perspectives (Session # 2496)

Sunday, October 1: 9:30 am – 10:45 am, Sheraton Centre (Simcoe Room)

    Panelists:

Elka Walsh, Associate Vice President, Learning & Teaching at Microsoft Canada

Meena Ram, Head of Enterprise Data Management at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce

Carolyn Bernreiter, IT Director, Ecommerce & Marketing Product Team at Sobeys Canada

    Panel Description:

AI holds enormous potential for the field of strategic management by helping executives "avoid biases in decisions, pull insights out of oceans of data, and make strategic choices more quickly" (Pachner and Atsmon, 2023). AI has the potential to substitute and augment human capabilities, affecting inter-firm competition and strategic interactions in interesting and novel ways (Krakowski, Luger, and Raisch, 2022). Further, AI demands attention and scrutiny due to the positive and negative ways it affects the nature of work and corporate responsibility (Haenlein, Huang, and Kaplan, 2021).

The primary objectives of this teaching panel are to share senior executive perspectives on how AI is affecting the ways in which firms develop strategic approaches to serving customers, and what this means for the skills, competencies, knowledge, and attitudes business graduates will need to thrive in an evolving AI economy.

The panel will begin with short (10-minute) presentations by each of the senior executives. The remainder of the session will comprise moderated discussion between the session audience and the executive leaders. Professors Felipe Monteiro (INSEAD) and Ayesha Malhotra (University of Calgary) will serve as moderators.
