PDW on Blockchain as a General Purpose Technology
    AOM 2023
    Saturday Aug 5th, 1pm-3:30pm EDT
    Hynes 102

The blockchain phenomenon has grown dramatically throughout the past decade. While initially conceived for digital currency, this technology is now applied to a variety of settings, including logistics, healthcare, law, and art. Given its rapid diffusion, many scholars and practitioners view it as a general purpose technology. At the same time, there is an active debate around its true potential to transform management, innovation, and the economy. Given its potential impact and the uncertainty around it, the blockchain phenomenon requires thoughtful examination by the research community.

This PDW explores the complex role of the blockchain technology in management. We contextualize the phenomenon within the broader innovation literature and discuss some of its most relevant applications. The event is open to the entire Management community and expertise in the blockchain is NOT required. The program is designed to promote the generation of new research ideas in this domain.

The event features an outstanding group of innovation scholars: Hanna Halaburda (New York University), Ying-Ying Hsieh (Imperial College London), Rahul Kapoor (University of Pennsylvania), Aija Leiponen (Cornell University), Fabrice Lumineau (University of Hong Kong), Daniel Obermeier (Technical University of Munich), and Rob Seamans (New York University).
