The Department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Research at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition invites outstanding and motivated researchers to apply for a Postdoctoral Position in Economics or Management. The term of the appointment is up to three years.
The department, led by Prof. Dietmar Harhoff, conducts research on the incentives, determinants, and implications of innovation and entrepreneurship processes, as well as their behavioral foundations.
Researchers at the Institute are expected to independently carry out basic research in the following fields:
- Innovation (with potential focuses on intellectual property rights, digitalization and innovation, the origins and impact of AI, the science of science, the organization of innovation processes, innovation policy, and innovation addressing grand challenges)
- Entrepreneurship (e.g., entrepreneurial finance, startup acceleration, entrepreneurship education, social and inclusive entrepreneurship)
- Behavioral Foundations (e.g., incentives for creativity, innovation motives and behavior, inventor characteristics)
The Institute provides access to an outstanding research infrastructure, including large-scale databases and computing capacity for machine learning. The working language is English.
Key details about the position:
- The appointment is for up to three years and begins in Fall 2025 (or earlier).
- There are no teaching obligations.
- The gross salary is based on the German Labor Agreement for Public Service (TVöD).
Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. in business administration, economics or closely related fields, or be close to finishing their Ph.D., and have a very strong background in empirical methods. We value alignment between the group's topics and the candidate's research agenda.
