CALL FOR PAPERS 2023 AOM PDW:
Board and TMT Diversity: A Paper Development Workshop
Co-Organizers: Elena Doldor, (Queen Mary University of London), Corinne Post (Villanova University), Cathrine Seierstad (University of South-Eastern Norway)
o Do you research diversity on boards or in top management teams (TMTs)?
o Are you looking for a value-adding informal review, expert feedback, or strategic advice on a manuscript you are preparing for publication?
o If you answered yes to these questions, then this workshop is for you!
The Board and TMT Diversity: A paper development Workshop is designed for researchers in the field of diversity, corporate governance and upper echelons (boards, TMT). Highly experienced scholars, many with editorial experience, will mentor and provide feedback to more junior scholars on papers close to journal submission. Consideration will be given to a wide range of topics in this area, including but not limited to: (1) papers that consider outcomes of board/TMT diversity beyond firm financial performance, to examine issues like social sustainability, workplace diversity and inclusion, employee well-being, or pandemic-related changes to employee relations and workplace dynamics; (2) papers that develop novel explanations for how and when board/TMT diversity affects firm outcomes; (3) papers that consider novel conceptualizations of board / TMT diversity; (4) international/cross-country comparisons as well as new methodological approaches. Qualitative, quantitative, conceptual, and empirical manuscripts are welcome.
The PDW will be held in person only during this year's AoM conference in Boston. Participants are asked to submit a manuscript that is close to submission to a refereed journal (not under review). The paper should follow standard AOM guidelines (one single document, including all text, figures, tables, graphs, appendices, and references, NOT exceeding 40 pages in total length). Additionally, we request a one-page extended abstract and a list of key questions authors request feedback on (making the overall submission 41 pages).
Standing by to help you with your paper are the following experienced scholars: Thomas Clarke (University of Technology, Sydney), Siri Terjesen (Florida Atlantic University), Steven Boivie (Texas A&M), Bryan Boyd (City University of Hong Kong), Diana Bilimoria (Case Western Reserve University), Terrance Fitzimmons (University of Queensland), Sue Vinnicombe (Cranfield School of Management), Toyah Miller (George Mason University), Livia Markoczy (UT Dallas), Andrew Ward (Lehigh University), Igor Filatochev (King's College London), Winfried Ruigrok (University of St.Gallen), Christine Shropshire (Arizona State University), Donald Siegel (Arizona State University), James Westphal (Michigan Ross University), Orlando Richard (University of Texas at Dallas), David Zhu (Arizona State University), Sabina Nielsen (University of Sydney), Sydney Finkelstein (Dartmouth College), Kris Byron (Georgia State University), and Cynthia Clark (Bentley University), Maddy Wyatt (King's College London), Alice Eagly (Northwestern University), and Florence Villeseche (Copenhagen Business School).
You're On Board, Now What's Next?
1. Submit your manuscript to Cathrine Seierstad (Cathrine.Seierstad@usn.no); submission opens on June 5th and closes June 23rd 2023. In addition to the standard 40-page paper, please add one extra page including the following information:
o An extended abstract
o A list of key questions authors request feedback on
o The authors' career tenure (e.g. PhD student or number of years post-PhD)
o A confirmation that at least one of the author(s) commit to attend AOM in person (feedback will only be offered in person)
2. Decisions will be communicated by July 7th. Spaces are limited and acceptance is competitive, so preference will be given to papers close to submission to a refereed journal and to junior scholars. You will also be notified of your allocated mentor.
3. The PDW will be held during the AoM conference in person only, in a round table format. Participants will be allocated to tables with their assigned mentors. Other participants can also register and listen in on the sessions. The PDW organizers will provide a short welcome and debrief comments.
