Dissertation Proposal Workshop

17th Annual OMT Dissertation Proposal Workshop Report
Davide Ravasi, University College London
2020 OMT Past Division Chair

The OMT Division annually offers an opportunity for students at the pre-proposal stage to draw on the wisdom and expertise of a group of established OMT scholars to develop a defensible dissertation proposal.

This was our 17th year offering the OMT Dissertation Proposal Workshop. The entire workshop is built around getting individual, in-depth developmental feedback from mentors and peers with similar research interests at the critical research stage of developing a dissertation proposal.

This year, 23 students had a chance to interact with an outstanding group of mentors who generously spent their time giving individual feedback to small groups on their individual proposal ideas:

  • Eva Boxenbaum (Copenhagen Business School)
  • Peer Fiss (University of Southern California)
  • Henrich Greve (INSEAD)
  • Candace Jones (University of Edinburgh)
  • Nelson Phillips (Imperial College London), and
  • Marc-David Seidel (University of British Columbia)

Each mentor hosted a small roundtable with 3 to 4 students to give in-depth feedback and discuss each students’ ideas to create a defensible dissertation proposal with the potential to grow into a high-quality dissertation.

For those of you interested in participating next year, keep your eye out for an announcement from our new OMT Division Chair, Peer Fiss, for details of next year’s Dissertation Proposal Workshop in Vancouver.

On behalf of everyone at OMT, I want to thank all of the mentors and the students for helping make this important OMT tradition an ongoing success!
