86th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management 2026

31 July- 4 August 2025, Philadelphia, PA, USA

    Symposium on Self-Disclosure in Organizations:

Building on the enthusiastic response from the last three AOM meetings, this symposium will explore the evolving role of self-disclosure in shaping work relationships, professional growth, and careers, as well as examine the various modalities of self-disclosure (e.g., online vs. offline self-disclosure). Focusing on how revealing personal information impacts interpersonal dynamics at work, career sustainability, and advancement, we aim to unpack processes and outcomes of self-disclosure at work. We welcome research that examines self-disclosure across organizational levels and cultural contexts, with attention to interpersonal relationships, leadership, careers, and HRM. This year, we especially encourage contributions that consider the contextual nature of self-disclosure. As a social psychological phenomenon, self-disclosure is deeply influenced by its surrounding environment, and context has been highlighted as essential in organizational research. By bringing together diverse perspectives, questions, and methodologies, this symposium seeks to deepen our understanding of how self-disclosure shapes individual work outcomes, influences HR management strategies, and contributes to the broader field of organizational behavior.

If you are interested in participating, please contact us by Friday, October 31, with a short proposal (about 1 or 2 pages).
