Annual Meeting 2024

84th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management

9 - 13 August, Chicago, IL USA

Message from the Division Chair

Jenny Hoobler

Hello members! I hope to see many of you in Chicago–”our kind of town!”--for the Academy of Management Annual Meeting in August. Thank you to Sujana Adapa, 2024 Program Chair, for her hard work to make it a great program. Thank you to our leadership team and our volunteers. It takes a village.

We have implemented several initiatives this year to include members who for many reasons may not attend the annual conference, specifically those from locations underrepresented in our membership base. Initiatives include virtual workshops, mentorship, and travel scholarships. Inclusivity is our core value, and I would love to hear from you about how DEI can meet your needs as scholars, career persons, and teachers. Please feel free to contact me directly with ideas. We value our members far and wide.

Come celebrate with us in Chicago!

We know the program can be overwhelming, and that sometimes we just need to sit back and listen, see our old and new friends, have a chat and celebrate being together. The DEI division organizes a number of events that should give you a chance to do just that. Click the session numbers in the following list to view session information in the AOM 2024 online program, and add them to your personal agenda. We hope to see you at many of these events and please spread the word.

DEI-CMS Special Plenary

Session 1786: Tuesday August 13, 8:00am - 9:30am, Hyatt Regency Chicago: Ballroom C

A fantastic collaboration between two prominent divisions DEI and CMS to run a special plenary titled ‘Taking a Stand? Research, Values and Leadership in Academia’. We find this to be a crucial debate in a context where some forms of scholarship and associated activities may be characterized as ‘political’. We will reflect on how to address grand challenges while balancing diverse interests, ethical obligations, and a concern for inclusion. We will also debate the nuances of voluntary leadership and its associated responsibilities in this context.
