Call for Papers: Symposium on Self-Disclosure in Organizations
85th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management 2025
25-29 July 2025, Copenhagen, Denmark
Building on the enthusiastic response from the last AOM meeting, this symposium will explore the evolving role of self-disclosure in shaping work relationships, professional growth, and careers, as well as examine the various modalities of self-disclosure (e.g., online vs. offline self-disclosure). Focusing on how revealing personal information impacts interpersonal dynamics at work, career sustainability, and advancement, we aim to unpack processes and outcomes of self-disclosure at work. Topics will include the role of self-disclosure in developing and managing workplace relationships, leadership development, and career trajectories. We welcome research that examines self-disclosure across organizational levels and cultural contexts, with attention to interpersonal relationships at work, leadership, careers, and HRM. This symposium seeks to deepen our understanding of how self-disclosure can impact individuals' work outcomes, bringing fresh perspectives, questions, and methodologies to the discussion in the field of organizational behavior.
If you are interested in participating, please contact us by Friday, November 15, with a short proposal (about 1 or 2 pages). Final long abstract submissions (5 pages) from participants are due on Friday, December 6. For more information, please contact Gabriela Cuconato at (gdc27@case.edu) and Aï Ito (ai.ito@xjtlu.edu.cn).
We look forward to receiving your submissions,
Gabriela Cuconato and Aï Ito
