The Journal of Business and Psychology (JBP) is excited to launch the JBP Scholars Program. The JBP Scholars Program aims to increase the participation of scholars of color in journal and editorial leadership roles. The JBP Scholars Program is a mentoring program that involves a series of workshops and journal reviews that will occur during a year-long commitment. The JBP Scholars program is designed to provide learning and developmental opportunities for IO/OB/HR scholars of color across career stages. The following topics will be covered:

    • How to do very efficient, but effective, reviews – save time, without sacrificing quality
    • How to review strategically -- when to say no
    • How to gain the competencies and position yourself for the boards and editor roles you most seek

    Specifics:

    • This will be an annual program. Only 6 participants will be accepted each cohort. The following underrepresented groups are the focus of the program this year: Black/African Americans, Hispanic/Latinx and Native Americans.
    •  We will hold three virtual sessions:

Session 1 (start of program) – an overview of review process, the associate editors' insight, how they perceive the review and the paper, how to position yourself to get on a board/become an AE

Session 2: mentors discuss how to be more efficient; what they do; advice; how to be critical but "nice" about it.

Session 3 (end of program) - mentors and mentees discuss the process/experience; feedback; what worked and what didn't.

Your responsibilities as a JBP Scholar will include:

    1. Meet with your mentor to develop a schedule and plan.
    2. Work with your mentor in conducting reviews. You will complete assigned reviews (2 over 6-9 months). The purpose of completing the reviews with your mentor is to develop your journal review skills and prepare you for journal editorial leadership positions.
    3. Provide feedback at the end of the program so it can be further developed for the next cohort.
    4. Attend all 3 Sessions described above.

If you are interested in joining the JBP Scholars Program, please complete the following application by June 24th: https://forms.gle/9zjM81pXs1znGVSH6 . We will select 6 scholars for the first cohort.

We hope that you will join this program and be developed as a JBP Scholar. If you have any questions, please contact Juan Madera (jmmadera@uh.edu) and/or Mindy Bergman (mindybergman@tamu.edu).
