AOM PDW "I'm Speaking: Understanding Gender Experiences in Academia" (session 76)

Friday, July 30th 2021 from 10:00AM to 12:30PM. Eastern (New York time)

We invite you to participate in our AOM PDW " I'm Speaking: Understanding Gender Experiences in Academia," scheduled for Friday, July 30th from 10:00AM to 12:30PM EST in a "Synchronous Live Open" virtual format. The session will be live-streamed and includes panelist presentations followed by breakout sessions where participants are able to have open conversations with the panelists. If you are interested in participating, please register by July 1st using the following link: https://mays.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_daJM4KNK4pZgj6m

Aim: This PDW seeks to examine the numerous barriers and gender inequities (e.g., field-level structural barriers, lack of organizational support, social support concerns, and limited allyship) that detriment female scholars in academia generally and in the field of organizational sciences, specifically. More importantly, we hope to apply findings from organizational scholarship to the field of academia, to generate ideas for structural changes that can help women overcome some of these barriers. Combined, this PDW seeks to broaden our understanding of women's experiences in the Academy, and find solutions to better meet the needs of female scholars and facilitate their success in the field.

We believe it is imperative for both men and women to be part of this conversation. So, this session invites leading female and male scholars to apply insights from their own, and others', research on gender and organizational bias to the field of management.

    Our panelists include:

    Yan "Anthea" Zhang, Rice University

    Aparna Joshi, Penn State University

    Gary Powell, University of Connecticut

    Lucy Gilson, University of Connecticut

    Cynthia Devers, Texas A&M University

    Theresa Glomb, University of Minnesota

Marie Louise Mors, Copenhagen Business School

    Brian Connelly, Auburn Universit

    Christine Shropshire, Arizona State University

    Anthony Klotz, Texas A&M University

    Allison Gabriel, University of Arizona

    Christopher Rosen, University of Arkansas

To ensure a rich discussion focused on strategizing and developing solutions that address the systemic issues of gender inequities and will facilitate change in academia, this workshop requires pre-registration. If you are interested in participating, please register using the following link: https://mays.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_daJM4KNK4pZgj6m

We hope you can join us for this PDW and look forward to your participation!

    Best regards,
PDW Organizers Priyanka Dwivedi (Texas A&M), Nitya Chawla (Texas A&M), and Kate Zipay (U. of Oregon)
