    Dear Colleagues:

I will be teaching a special topics course in work/life issues at the upper undergraduate/graduate level in Fall 2020.  I am looking for syllabi, course materials, and any relevant resources that others have found useful.  I am happy to compile results and make them available to the list, providing that I receive permission from those providing the materials.  Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi Laura-

I recommend four resources for a course on Work-Life fit.

The first is a book (and website, and work of)  Cali Yost, the person who's shaped the conversation to be about "fit" and not tension or balance. Her work is a great introduction to the issues and to corporate plus personal level advice on how to address it.

Work-Life Fit: Finding the Fit That's Right for You, by Cali Yost

Two articles I've written that offer an alternative (cautionary) perspective around the conversation -- good as introductions:

3 Dangerous Assumptions in Corporate Work-Life Policy

Four Work-Life Challenges That Can Be Especially Difficult For Women of Color

And finally, I'd recommend the essay on Work-Life from my own book, Feminism: A Key Idea in Business.

The essay is short and cuts straight to the heart of the tensions in the work-life conversation.  I can send you a free 'proof' copy that you can distribute to your students, or you can have them buy the book. Use the code FEM20 to get 20% off.   (I'll email you a copy of the essay, directly).

Thanks, Celia.  These look like great resources.  I'll probably buy a copy of your book as it looks like it may be helpful in other plans I have of trying to lead curriculum change here in my own business school.

    Laura,

It feels a bit like self-promotion, so I apologize, but you may also want to look at my book with Jamie Ladge which was just released, Maternal Optimism (www.maternal-optimism.com). We wrote our book in part for a survey course as we examine the different stages and transitions of the work/life experience and provide the reader with research and stories to help them explore how as individuals and organizational leaders they can create a better work/life path. You also can take a look at our website which has links to various articles and podcasts on the topic. If you want more information or a discount purchase code (or others do), feel free to email me directly at dgreenberg@babson.edu.

I would also love to see the syllabus when you are done.

    Warmly,

    Danna
