Diversity Climate Survey question

Howdy friends...asking the diversity "hive mind" what you all think about this.

A colleague and I were instrumental in developing a diversity climate survey for college campuses that we have used to survey our student body. It is tight, concise, and gets at some important fundamental issues around how students feel about their experience on our campus.

Fast forward, my colleague presented a poster session at a conference (she is in Pharmacy) about our pilot study and has gotten a lot of interest in the instrument. So here's my question, we were wondering if there was a way to manage this, aside from getting citation credit for the instrument itself? I don't think for one minute we could charge a lot of money for the use of it...this isn't the MLQ. But our goal is to perhaps ask for a nominal donation that we could use for diversity initiatives on our campus. The target audience would be universities, schools, and college campuses. The donation would go to the SIUE Foundation, which is also tax deductible.

    1. Is it "reasonable" to ask for money for the instrument, rather than sharing it pro-bono as we typically do as academics.
    2. What would be a reasonable "charge" for access to the survey? This would be a one time charge, and would come in the form of a "donation" to the SIUE Foundation for Diversity Initiatives.

I'll add, I'm on the fence about this...I see the benefit of just using it as a citation, but on the other hand, these schools are not necessarily going to publish their survey results...most likely this will be used internally...so it may not translate into citations that benefit my "research portfolio", if you know what I mean. So I'm open to any/all opinions and ideas about how to best handle this!

    Cheers!
