    Dear All,

We are submitting a proposal for a Presenter Symposium at the AOM in Chicago, 2018 and would like to know if you would want to be a part of it.

The symposium will be in the Gender and Diversity in Organizations (GDO) division and be titled "Underrepresentation of women in leadership: where does the onus lie?". To understand and address the problem of under-representation of women in leadership roles, there is research that looks at the contextual factors – the practices within organizations, that inhibit women's career progression. It also evaluates the effectiveness of hiring and development practices that are employed by organizations to help women ascend into leadership roles. Then there is another research stream that asserts that women are not just passively blocked by organizations; they are active agents and their career progression depends on the decisions that they make. We believe that these two arguments are not mutually exclusive. There is merit to both sides of the argument and only when we comprehensively analyse both sides of the coin will we able to understand and address this issue.  On the demand side – we will be looking at effectiveness of recruitment practices for women in leadership roles and leadership development initiatives for women. On the supply side – we will be taking a closer look at how women evaluate their own capabilities and opportunities available to them and how this affects their leadership development.

This is a discussion, we believe, that the GDO division will be very interested in, to gain a more comprehensive understanding of issues associated with women in leadership.

We would like to know if you are interested in submitting your work (either in the demand or supply side of the problem) so as to present it as a part of this symposium to an audience of GDO researchers. Co-authored work and presentations are also welcome.

If you are interested, please send me a brief summary of your paper/idea so that its fit with the symposium theme can be assessed. If it is a good fit, we would need you to send a 50-100 words abstract by December 31st, and a 3-5 page summary by January 3rd, 2018. If you require any additional information, please feel free to contact me.

    Thank you.

    Best regards,

    Radhika
