    Lecturer Position in People Analytics or Related Area

     

    POSITION TITLE

     

    The Program in Social-Organizational Psychology, Teachers College, Columbia University seeks a full-time Lecturer (non-tenure track) for a 1-year appointment with possibility of renewal.  Renewal is contingent upon performance reviews and availability of funding.  This position is available beginning September 2018, subject to final approval by College Trustees.

     

    OUR PROGRAM

     

    Teachers College (TC), a graduate and professional school affiliated with Columbia University, offers more than 65 degree programs in the domains of education, health, psychology and human development.  However, a third of the faculty at TC are psychologists. The Program in Social-Organizational Psychology is located in the Department of Organization and Leadership at Teachers College and is one of a number of psychology programs at TC.

     

    The Social-Organizational Psychology program offers three degrees (M.A., Ph.D., Executive M.A.) and several non-degree programs.  Our M.A. program has approximately 200 students and the Executive M.A. program enrolls about 25 students each year.  Our doctoral program has approximately 25 active students.  All of our programs are based on the disciplines of Social Psychology and Organizational Psychology and adhere to a scholar-practitioner approach.  In addition, our programs reflect our strong commitment to social justice.  Another distinctive feature of the Program in Social-Organizational Psychology is our belief in the importance of examining and understanding organizational issues from multiple perspectives and contexts – from the individual, the group, and the organizational levels.

     

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

     

    Primary responsibilities include teaching graduate level courses, advising and mentoring graduate students, and working with other faculty and staff in support of our Masters Program.  Our Masters Program educates students to be experts in organization effectiveness, culture and change, diversity and inclusion, team development and team building, conflict resolution, assessment and coaching, leadership, and more, emphasizing the rigorous study of the practical problems facing people in organizations today in service of a more just society. A diverse range of teaching and learning methodologies inform the MA student experience including didactic input from experts in the field, applied research combined with experiential learning, and hands-on practical experience working with real clients.

     

    The base teaching assignment for Lecturers is five courses during the academic year. Courses are typically taught during the late afternoon or evenings and in some cases on weekends.  In consideration of additional program administration and coordination responsibilities, a one course reduction in teaching load may be provided.  

     

    While there is some flexibility in courses taught, ideal candidates would teach courses related to the core curriculum of our program with a particular focus on courses such as:  People or HR Analytics; Statistics for HR; HR Information Systems. Candidates with expertise teaching other additional courses consistent with our curriculum are also welcome to apply.

     

    REQUIREMENTS

     

    The candidate should have a Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in Social-Organizational Psychology, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Organizational Theory, Human Resource Management, Social Psychology, or a related field with an interest in employees and organizations. 

     

    Successful candidates will have proven teaching ability, experience with innovative pedagogies and skills in instructional design.  Additionally, ideal candidates will have relevant work experience, and engage in evidence-based practice with a record of some applied research and scholarly writing.

     

    SALARY:

     

    Competitive and commensurate with experience.
