Responsibilities
You will conduct research on how low-skilled labour (LSL) organizations deal with diversity in their workforce in terms of gender, ethnicity and class. Using the concept of inclusion and intersectionality, you will empirically document the organizational practices that increase the inclusion of a diverse workforce – with special regard to migrant workers – in LSL organizations.
The PhD project is part of a larger research programme that contributes to our knowledge on gender and diversity in organizations. In this research programme, several projects on diversity are conducted to study the way inequalities are reproduced and countered in organizational processes.
Your tasks will be to conduct ethnographic case study research using a multi-level research design, to write scientific articles, and to complete a PhD dissertation within four years. You will also participate in conferences, workshops, seminars and other scholarly activities, and contribute to teaching.
Work environment
The research project is part of the research programme of Radboud Social and Cultural Research (RSCR), which brings together the disciplines of sociology, anthropology and development studies as well as gender and diversity studies. The successful applicant will become a member of the Gender and Diversity Studies Chair Group.
What we expect from you
· a Master's degree, preferably a Research Master's degree, in anthropology, sociology, gender and diversity studies, organization studies, or a related field;
· proven interests in and knowledge of theories on inequality, diversity and inclusion;
· relevant research experience, including qualitative fieldwork;
· excellent command of written and spoken English and proficiency in Dutch;
· the ability to finish the PhD thesis in four years, i.e. good skills in planning, taking initiatives, academic writing.
What we have to offer
· employment: 1,0 fte;
· in addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus;
· the gross starting salary amounts to €2,191 per month based on a 38-hour working week, and will increase to €2,801 in the fourth year (P scale);
· duration of the contract: 4 years;
· you will be appointed for an initial period of 18 months, after which your performance will be evaluated. If the evaluation is positive, the contract will be extended by 2.5 years;
· as part of the contract, you will participate in teaching for approximately 10% of your work time;
· you will be classified as a PhD candidate (promovendus) in the Dutch university job-ranking system (UFO).
