Dear Colleagues:
I've been corresponding with Dave Kodner, Ellen Fagenson Eland's husband. He is very touched by the outpouring of sympathy and support he has received from Ellen's colleagues. He was hesitant to make any requests, but tentatively suggested this idea. I think it is absolutely wonderful, and I encourage you to respond if you can. Here's what David said:
"I don't want to ask for anything material for either me or Kelly, but I thought the following might be feasible. I hope it's not too much to ask.
Perhaps people could write a "Dear Kelly" letter describing some small (or big) thing that her mother did and what it meant to them or to others. I'm sure she would treasure them, even if there were only a few brief ones. I've received a tremendous outpouring of condolences, but it's not the same.
People could email them to me [Note from Gayle: David's e-mail address is kodnerd@yahoo.com] and I can have them printed and bound. I'm not asking for you (or anyone) to do that, just to think about what they could write.
Just a thought. Thanks for considering it."

I considered it and thought it was a great idea. I'm working on my letter to Kelly and hope to send it along shortly. I hope that some of you, who also knew Ellen, will consider doing the same. Thanks for your patience with my series of messages. -- Gayle
