  • 1.  Call for Papers, Southwest Academy of Management

    Posted 08-23-2010 17:54
Dear Gender and Diversity in Organizations Colleagues:

I am sending this message to encourage you to submit papers for consideration for the Southwest Academy of Management (SWAM, a regional affiliate of the Academy of Management) annual conference.  In my role as Track Chair for the Human Resources/Careers/Gender and Diversity area, I am very interested in receiving submissions from GDO members.  This area has not always been well-represented at SWAM and this year I want to change that situation!

The submission deadline for the conference is October 1, 2010.  The conference will be held from March 9 to March 12 in Houston, Texas.  The actual Call for aPapers follows my signature, but here's a little information about the conference venue that might entice you to submit!

Houston is building, and there is a new cluster of shops, restaurants, and pubs-known as The Pavilions-within easy walking distance of the conference hotel. The downtown area contains several professional sports venues, opera, ballet, theatre, and the aquarium.  Nearby are the Houston zoo and museum district. A little farther afield, you can tour NASA's Johnson Space Center, home to astronaut training facilities and mission control for all U.S. manned space flight. Explore additional Houston options at www.visithoustontexas.com.

Begin your journey by submitting a paper or proposing a workshop/symposium.  If you are not ready to submit a paper, we are always seeking reviewers for the conference.  You can sign up to review on the same electronic system through which you submit papers and symposia.  The session chairs and discussants are usually drawn from the reviewer pool, so please be sure to indicate your interest.

Many SWAM members begin their affiliation during their graduate school years.  So we welcome the submissions, input, and energy of doctoral students.  Please direct your inquiries to Gayle Baugh, Human Resources track chair, at gbaugh@uwf.edu or call me at (850) 474-2206.

Dear Gender and Diversity in Organizations Colleagues:

I am sending this message to encourage you to submit papers for consideration for the Southwest Academy of Management (SWAM) annual conference.  The Southwest Academy of Management is a regional affiliate of the Academy of Management.  I am serving as the Track Chair for the Human Resources/Careers/Gender and Diversity area.  I am very interested in receiving submissions in the GDO area and from GDO members because this area has not always been well-represented at SWAM.  I know that there are lots of folks doing good scholarly work in this area and I'd love to have lots of submissions!

The submission deadline for the conference is October 1, 2010.  The conference will be held from March 9 to March 12 in Houston, Texas.  The actual Call for Papers is available on the SWAM website (http://www.swamfbd.org), because I couldn't quite make the Call fit into the GDO size requirements and I didn't want to add an attachment.  But here's a little information about the conference venue that might entice you to submit!

Come join us, March 9-12, in the newly refurbished Houston Hyatt Regency.  Since our last Houston visit, this hotel has undergone a mega-million dollar facelift. FBD (the Federation of Business Disciplines, our "umbrella" organization) reports that hotel conference rates will be single rooms, $138; doubles, $155; triples, $167; and quads, $185.  These rates include free in-room Internet service.

Since our last Houston conference, a new cluster of shops, restaurants, and pubs-known as The Pavilions-has been built within easy walking distance.

Take a minute to scan the Call for Papers at the end of this message. If you are not ready to submit a paper, we are always seeking reviewers for the conference.  You can sign up to review on the same electronic system through which you submit papers and symposia.  The session chairs and discussants are usually drawn from the reviewer pool, so if you are interested in serving in that capacity, please indicate your interest.
