STREAM: CRITICAL PERSPECTIVES ON GENDER AND DIVERSITY

Conveners: Marta B. Calas, Linda Smircich, Regine Bendl

    Keynote Speaker:
    Joan Acker
Prof. Ackers most recent book is Class Questions: Feminist Answers (2006)

    Possible Areas for Discussion:

-Intersectionalities of gender, race, ethnicity, class,
sexualities, etc. as conceptual lenses for understanding contemporary
processes in global organizing and management.

-Differences in the meanings of gender and diversity in
organization theories developed in different regions of the world. Could
    they speak to each other?

-Gender as object and gender as practice? What difference does this
make for new organization theory and research?

-Masculinities and organization theories: implications for new
    organization theory and research

-If gender and diversity really matter in the global landscape, how
might conceptualizations of work, management and organization change?

-Objects and subjects in globalizing organization and management
theory: production of neocolonialism or contestation of neoliberalism?

-Global or local? Whose theories? : Gender and diversity in the
doing of management and organization theory

    Submission Guidelines and Selection Process:

Extended abstracts of about 800 words should be submitted via email
attachment to all conveners of this stream:

    marta@mgmt.umass.edu,smircich@mgmt.umass.edu,Regine.Bendl@wu-wien.ac.at

no later than April 1, 2006. Submissions for this workshop are primarily
intended for discussion and exchange of ideas for future research and
theory development. Therefore, it is acceptable to submit abstracts
related to papers or symposia that were submitted and accepted to the 2006
    Academy of Management meetings.

To maximize discussion and exchange of ideas, at most 15 abstracts will be
selected based on their intended contribution to the theme of this stream.
This is not a full blind-review process; nonetheless, conveners will
prefer to read the abstracts without author identification. For that
reason, your submission should include a cover page indicating abstract
title, author(s) and full contact information (including email), and the
abstract page(s) with abstract title on the heading but no other
identifying information. If you are a doctoral student, please also
indicate this on the cover page, as some modest financial support may
become available. On April 15, 2006, authors of selected abstracts will be
invited to submit full discussion papers by June 15, 2006.

    Workshop Venue:

Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center
    (http://www.gatechhotel.com/index2.asp), in Atlanta's midtown section.
This location is about 1.6 mile from the Academy of Management hotels.
