    The psychology department at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is searching for two applied psychologists to join our faculty. The job ads are below.  We would love to have candidates with diversity interests.  Please feel free to distribute this e-mail broadly.

     

    Southern Illinois University <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">CARBONDALE</st1:city></st1:place>-Psychology Department invites applications for two (2) tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin August 16, 2007.  The Psychology Department at SIUC (www.psychology.siu.edu) has 30 faculty, approximately 430 majors, and over 100 doctoral students.  The Department has a strong collegial atmosphere and excellent support for research and teaching.  The Department provides doctoral training with specializations in Applied Psychology and Brain and Cognitive Science, as well as separate APA-accredited programs in Clinical Psychology and Counseling Psychology. 

     

    Applied Psychology (AP).  We are seeking two applied research psychologists with interests in the application of psychological theory and research methods to real-world problems.  Preferences will be given to candidates with interests and experience in the following areas: (1) Industrial and Organizational Psychology:  Research specializations might include (but are not limited to) the following areas: personnel selection/recruitment, executive assessment, legal issues in employment, personnel psychology, organizational behavior management, performance management or social science research methodology in organizations.   The selected individual will be expected to teach an undergraduate and possibly graduate course in research methods or statistics, and undergraduate and graduate courses in industrial and organizational psychology or related courses. (2) Applied Social Psychology: Research specializations might include (but are not limited to) the following areas: health psychology (non-clinical), applied social, community, environmental, political, or social justice. In addition to courses in his or her area of specialization, the selected individual will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in social psychology, an undergraduate course in research methods, and possibly a graduate course in program evaluation.  Candidates for either position must have demonstrated ability to conduct research in applied settings and to extend basic psychological theory and research to applied problems.  Candidates with consultation experience are preferred.  It is expected that the individual will develop an active, externally funded research program. 

     

    Applicants are expected to have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. in Psychology by the date of employment.  If all requirements have not been completed, a one-year term appointment at the rank of Instructor will be offered.  Applicants should send a cover letter with an explicit statement of the position of interest, research and teaching interests, a current curriculum vita, reprints, teaching evaluations (if available), and have three letters of recommendation sent to Chair, Applied Psychology Search Committee, Department of Psychology, Mailcode 6502, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, 1125 Lincoln Drive, Carbondale, IL 62901.  Review of applications will begin November 1, 2006, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.  SIUC is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer that strives to enhance its ability to develop a diverse faculty and staff and to increase its potential to serve a diverse student population.
