Greetings colleagues,
For last year's AOM conference, I organized a PDW on teaching classes on
diversity. It was very well received and I've been asked to repeat the
workshop for the 2007 meeting. The PDW will be designed for those with
little or no experience in teaching diversity courses. It will include
presentations by experienced teachers about how they teach certain
courses (e.g., undergraduate and MBA course on organizational diversity)
and how they use certain resources (e.g., experiential exercises, cases,
movies). In addition, an experienced diversity teacher will work with
small groups of participants when they design possible courses.
The PDW will be offered on the Sunday immediately before the main
program (August 5, I believe). The 2007 meeting will be in Philadelphia.
I am now looking for possible presenters. If you are an experienced
teacher of diversity courses and would like to be one of the presenters,
please let me know. Please give me enough information about your
experience and what you'd like to do so I'll know how you might fit into
the program. In fact, it would be helpful if you sent me your most
recent syllabus from each of the diversity courses you teach. In a few
days, after the responses have come to an end, I'll create the PDW by
matching presenter interests with the activities I've scheduled. I'll
try to include individuals who take a variety of approaches - hence my
request for your syllabi. At that time, I'll get back to you to confirm
your interest and availability. I hope to get so many offers that I
can't use everyone. With that in mind, I've also been thinking about
organizing a mentoring program for teachers of diversity - pairing
individuals with similar course interests. If you would like to serve as
a mentor in such a program, please let me know. For all of the above,
please contact me directly at
dkravitz@gmu.edu rather than responding to
the entire listserve.
If you are interested in participating in the PDW as a "student" or in
being paired in the mentoring program with a more experienced teacher,
please do *not* contact me now. Organizing the PDW will be sufficiently
challenging for me. When all is ready, I'll come back to this list to
let you know how to register for the PDW or to request pairing in the
mentoring program.
Cheers,
David
