    Call for Papers

    Conference « Gender and Diversity in Organizations »

    Supported by the Institut Emilie du Châtelet, Paris, France

    Paris, France, January 15th, 2009

    This is the first announcement and call for papers for the international Conference on "Gender

    and Diversity in Organizations", an initiative from the AGRH "diversity and equality" special

    interest group, to be held at ESCP-EAP European Management School, Paris, France, on

    January 15th, 2009.

    Although equal treatment and diversity management are established fields of research and

    management practices in Anglo-Saxon countries, they are relatively recent in Continental

    Europe. Anglo-Saxon research has begun to explore the rhetoric and the reality of such

    policies. The relationships between gender equality and diversity have been questioned,

    theoretically and empirically. On the other hand, it can be argued that the concept of Diversity

    enables to better seize the diverse dimensions of gender, i.e. the diverse realities of men and

    women's employment and career situations but also the diversity of women (of class, ethnic

    origin, age...). The concept also evokes the potential benefits which employers can get from a

    gender diverse workforce.

    Suitable topics of communications include but are not limited to :

    o Studying gender inequalities in organizations and other dimensions of diversity (age,

    origins, sexual orientation) ;

    o Implementing equality policies between women and men, in relation (or not) with

    diversity management ;

    o Analysing HRM and organisational practices with a gender perspective ;

    o Evaluating organizational practices of equality and diversity management.
