As a member of Academy GDO, I write this note for two reasons. One is to highlight a special issue of the Journal on Excellence in College Teaching, which focuses on diversity and inclusion. The other is to seek suggestions or advice pertaining to an outstanding new faculty position at the Farmer School of Business at Miami University, where I work in the Management Department. I outline these issues in reverse order.
The new position is called the Petters Professorship in Leadership and seeks an established teacher/scholar. This individual will have the leverage and the privilege to help design and guide an emerging Center of Leadership and Ethics -- including the hiring of a Professorship in Ethics sometime soon -- but will focus primarily on teaching and scholarship. It may also be notable that the Farmer School will be moving into a state-of-the-art new building next Summer and the Petters Center will be located in a suite on the ground level (i.e., substantial visibility). We are attempting to get notification of the new position widely distributed. If any of you know of someone (including yourself) who is qualified and may be interested, please let me know. If you or someone you know wants more information about the position, it is available on our website or I can certainly mail hard copies of such information. Thank you very much!
You also may have interest in the special double-issue of the Journal on Excellence in College Teaching -- just published -- which focuses on diversity and inclusion. In it you will find an article that I wrote with one of my previous colleagues, Kathy Beard Adams, entitled "Talking Circles, Leadership Competencies, and Inclusive Learning: Expanding the Frame of Business Education." The article derives from my experiences using the Talking Circle in Leadership seminars; my team-teaching a course on "Alternative Ways of Organizing" with a Native American scholar and friend of mine, Kaylynn TwoTrees; my conceptual work with Kathy Adams; and my field work with several colleagues in Ireland.
