The Center for Gender in Organizations
Simmons School of Management
Announces the
?New Generation of Scholars Program?
Young women scholars of Puerto Rican, Mexican American, Chicana,
Native American, Black and/or African American identity are invited to
apply for inclusion in the New Generation of Scholars Program, a
program designed to provide opportunities for three young women with
strong potential who are engaged in cutting-edge research in areas
specific to gender in all of its complexities, including diversity.
The Center for Gender in Organizations (CGO) is able to offer this
program through a grant provided by the National Council for Research
on Women that will help develop a cadre of diverse women scholars who
are focused on research that further explores the impact of these
fields of study.
Criteria for applying to the program include holding a Ph.D. or
current enrollment in a Ph.D. program, investigating an area of study
that focuses upon gender in all of its complexities, including
diversity, and a commitment to write a paper that qualifies for
publication by CGO. The expectation is that this paper will
contribute to knowledge in the field of gender and its relationship to
diversity, leadership, entrepreneurship, and/or organizational change.
CGO will provide a stipend of $2,000 to each scholar to support her
research and will provide a review process (or a review process) of
her paper by one or more members of the CGO?s Women of Color Steering
Committee who will provide insight and feedback. Completed papers will
be edited and published by CGO as a part of its renowned publication
series.
Applications should be submitted to the Director of CGO via email at
patricia.deyton@simmons.edu. Applications should include a cover
letter indicating qualifications for and interest in the program, a
description of one or more qualifying writing topics, a writing sample
that shows capacity for originality and depth of research and ideas, a
current CV, and a commitment to complete the writing in a three-month
period of time.
The application period closes on December 31, 2008. Applications will
be reviewed by the members of the CGO Women of Color Steering
Committee and notifications will be provided to applicants by January
31, 2009. Questions about the program may be directed to
patricia.deyton@simmons.edu.
